Yes, I would say that it is a selfish way to die. Think of all of your friends, family, those that know you and love you and are concerned about you. Suicide would have an impact on those people and effect them, perhaps, for the rest of their lives. In that sense, suicide can be selfish act.
Problems can be temporary and they can be long term. However, suicide is final and it can not be changed. problems come and go, their impact can also change. Suicide is not the answer.

My fiance shot himself in the head when I was 18. I'm almost 24 now and it still effects every aspect of my life. I would have to say it is selfish, but I also know what it feels like to want to die. A person that has reached this convinces themselves that no one will care and everyone will be better off. Only mental illness can bring you to this stage of thinking, and only a lot of help can bring you back.

i don't think its selfish. no one knows the pain that someone else is going thru. or maybe they have done something terrible and can't tell anyone or they don't know how tell anyone. i can only imagine the struggle they have within themselves about the life they have, and how much better off they might be, not having life itself. not all people are depressed that kill themselves, some have terminal illnesses and the pain is so intense that dying is the only way to not feel that pain anymore. as for cleaning any messes, the family doesn't do that, how could they? they have specially trained people that do that, and it's not always messy.

Well...from someone who has attempted it 2 X.....fought the urge to do so all my life....I am not going to answer your question directly....but I will tell you this...life can be tough and you may need to seek counseling...talk to friends...if you can't do neither of those...you are doing a great thing now...post on here...there are a few persons on here who have helped me far more than professional help. I am not downgrading professional help, just the numerous therapists never worked for me...the people on here have experience that goes with advice...a lot of these people have gone thru the same things as us....hang in there! IM me if you like??

Because that is what most people have been taught, and choose, to believe. They're taught it is "selfish" because, basically, they don't want to have to deal with your death any sooner than they have to. I don;t advocate suicide in most cases, and I don't in your case, but it's your life, your choice and your business and it should be kept that way. In life, pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. If you are in misery and suffering, it is of your own choice; if it is a physical condition, there are alternatives.

People who commit suicide believe that the world will be better off without them and do not think that anyone will care. Not everyone who kills themself makes a mess either.

completely agree. and what about the people that care about them? are they just supposed to continue life as normal? although you ought to feel bad for them, that they had to stoop that low, just to stop some suffering.
