The length of your hair will be the least of your concerns if you are choosing to enlist.

Basically you will have a number one , that is the razor set on its deepest setting and you will be left with a frizz.

trust me not having hair is a bounus as you do not have to worry about field hygene, and it is one less thing to worry about when you have a field bath.

Upon entry you will be shorn like a sheep....stubble is all that will remain..as you head off to the Fleet, you are allowd longer hair ( Guidlines were no more than 2" on top, not touching the collar and clean around the ears, no sideburns Circa 1969) The norm today, seems to be very high and tight or shaved.

Best of Luck....Semper Fi and Thank you for choosing my Beloved Marine Corps

They will cut your hair bald the first day. Then cut it bald once a week after that until your last 3 weeks. Then you will get a high and tight once a week until you graduate. After bootcamp you must maintain a bald on side to no more than 3/4 an inch on top until you get out of the Corps in 30 years. You will be doing 30 right?!!!!!

High and tight.....buzz cut. It is easier and a lot more hygienic. I have mine too an number 2 all the time(about 5mm). No messing zip off it all comes.

Dont worry you are doing the right thing and will have an amazing time. Congratulations. I would say Good Luck but i dont believe in it, as our training means luck is obsolete.

To that last guy that answered, it's supposed to be so Marines can look clean cut, my husband also said that about no facial hair, is for the gas mask (I forgot why). Females can't have their heads shaved because it's eccentric, and it's supposed to be clean and perfect too, in a feminine hairstyle (if they have long hair).

They'll shave it when you get there. After that, I don't thnk the sides can be longer than a quarter of an inch.

If there is any practical reason for buzzing off the hair, then it should apply to female recruits as well.
