Try a medicine syringe, you can place it in the back corner of her mouth, tell her she can "chase" it down with a small glass of soda, or any kind of treat.. If it is a rx you can have the pharmacy flavor the medicine for a small fee. I do know Tylenol makes a flavor aid. It comes with different flavors for medicine. Whatever the medicine is, see if it comes in tablet form, and crush it up,and put it on a spoon with yougurt, applesauce etc...

Yes, likely you will have to force it down cause kids that age don't think rationally or logically. You first give her a choice. Either you can take it now, and just drink it, or I will force it down you. Tell her that you would be a very bad parent if you didn't make her take it because she needs it to be well. Then let her think for a minute. If she still refuses, then you get a dropper( instead of a cup or spoon), and you hold her down and squirt it in towards the back of her throat. If you have an extra hand you can try holding her nose - tell her she won't taste it if she holds her own nose. Also, she will have to swallow then. Isn't being a parent GREAT!!!!???? Don't mess around with all the other stuff. Either she takes it willingly or you are going to do it for her. Some things are not debatable issues and kids need to learn that all of life is not pleasant.

Ask the pharmacist if that particular medication can be flavored. When my daughter was that age, I made suckers for her out of chocolate chips. I melted the chocolate, mixed the medicine in, and put the mixture into a candy mold. The pediatrician suggested that remedy. I tried it, and it worked wonders for us. Some people would say that you shouldn't mix medicine and candy because the child might take too much of the medicine if they manage to get hold of it, but I always kept the medicines locked up.

Ok..my daughter was the same way! And a few people will fight me on this but when she was sick and the medicine had to be taken I would sing the Mary Poppins song (with a change) Just a little coke a cola helps the medicine go down.. I am telling you kids love coke and it will hide just about any medicine taste. She would drink it knowing it was in there.

HA! I just asked this question about my 19month old! Honestly, the only thing that worked is putting it in milk and then acting like I didn't care if he drank it. We left it out for a while then he went over and started sipping from it. We put 1/2 dose and will put the other 1/2 in later today. It was a huge fight as soon as he saw me coming at him with the dropper/syringe thing and if I tried to let him do it, he'd throw it on the floor and run away. I tried forcing it and he would gurgle and spit it out...even if I blew in his face!
If you have to hold her and force it, try putting the syringe between her back gums and hold her jaw forward...good luck!

I know Walgreens pharmacies have many different flavors they can add to medicine to make it more palatable. Also, a medicine syringe for children is always your best bet. Just hold your girl and both of her arms and slowly push the medicine towards the back of her throat but to the side where there are no taste buds. Worked like a charm for me for my 3 sons. Good luck.

I would never try to force it down her. What i would do is call her doctor and tell him that you are having trouble maybe he can get you something that will taste a lot better. Have you tried getting down to her level and talking to her like she is older. telling her that you know that it doesn't taste really good but it will make her feel bad. And don't get upset with her spitting it out she just doesn't like it. do these things and see what you come up with. i wish you all well and i hope that this helped you in some way.

I had this same problem with my daughter for the longest time. Make sure and explain to her, that if she doesn't take it that she will get/continue to be sick. Let her know that it doesn't taste bad (most kid's medication doesn't have that bad of a flavor). It took me a really long time with my daughter, to get her to the point that she is at, now. I, also, had her doctor talk to her at an appointment of hers. It would depend on the medication weather I would force it down her or not. If it's something like antibiotics, or tylenol when she is running a fever, then yeah, you have to get it down her one way...or another. Explain to her that if she doesn't take it, she will have to get it by going to the hospital...this scares the mess out of my daughter....Good Luck. I think all kids go through this.

All children are different, but what I did with my child is the reverse psychology approach.
I put it in the cup and walk over to her. I said, I dont think you can drink this all. then she would say, yes I can. I would say nah.. are you that big? Wow you are becoming such a big girl. I think I will drink it because I dont think you will be able to drink it all. Can you?
Then she was so excited to show me that she was able to drink it all. She slurped every last drop. To this day, she always drinks all of her medicine.
