He is moving in on February 1st and I won't see him until the summer. I don't necessarily need to give him a gift that will remind him of me, but just something small/simple and appropriate that he will appreciate. Thanks for any suggestions.

A first aid kit is often valued and overlooked.
How about a couple of cookbooks?
Maybe a tool kit with the requisite contents (hammer, nails, level, screwdriver, wire, pliers, etc.)
The book "Hints from Heloise" which deals with household hints.
A bottle of wine and a cd wrapped in cellophane with a bow.
A gift certificate from a nearby restaurant in a card?
Maybe a fire extinguisher and fire detector?

An atomic clock always is a good choice. All the men I know really like them. They always have the exact time and they also tell the temperature inside the home and outside. You can also get them with other features depending on how much you want to pay.

As corny as it may sound, how about a plant. Men don't usually think of greenery but women know how much it can add to a place.

We bought my brother in law a cookbook and frying pan he loves it. Some people gave him wine and some people gave him other household items. I would just find out what he needs and go from there.
