When people make positive comments such as this response to the Indian leaders question:

First, we each must work to rid ourselves from bigotry and hatred and to nurture respect, kindness and compassion for all people. Next, we need to work hard to help all human beings find good work, good food, clean air and water, and a good education.

THAT response got 4 thumbs down.

Why is it that people oppose GOOD solutions? It's like they have to be totally dishonest and take down GOOD PEOPLE just because...for no other reason.

To these people I ask, is this how you VOTE too? Is this how you would act if your very life depended on it?

Is there ANYTHING you do with your life that is honest and beneficial?

I mean you have a leader of a country ASKING THE WORLD what their solution would be.....and half these people can't even use this opportunity to DO SOME GOOD.

So why complain at all when you have an opportunity to make a difference and you DONT???

So B9, your logic then implies complacency which is what's led people to this state in the first place.

I disagree because I know it's possible to effect any change you want. There is power in numbers and when you unite you'd be amazed and what you can accomplish. Most people just want to shut the door and ignore the world. Shutting the door isn't going to make the world go away.

Yes B9 it's my opinion at work all right.

You said: "in the real world it's an unrealistic solution to a complex problem that will never happen."

That implies complacency because you've already made up your mind about what is possible and what is not.

It's not I that's closed minded...none are so blind as those who will not see.

And don't take that personally, I'm generalizing.

I think there will always be those who, if they can't understand what the speaker is saying, will react negatively. Sad fact....

I only 'thumbs down' an answer if it's obviously incorrect or not answering the question. Sometimes, I admit, I'd also 'thumbs down' an answer if I felt someone previously had already given that same response, or framed their answer poorly.

I myself try to live my life honestly. Sometimes I falter, but I like to think it was momentary lack of self-attention, rather than lack of self-respect.

I would guess that those people gave a thumbs down on that response because they disagreed with it.

You may think it was a good solution. Others apparently didn't agree with you. Not everyone thinks that it's a good idea for the whole world to get along with each other. Hatred, prejudice, and bigotry are very much alive and well in the world, and wishing it away won't make it go away.

That doesn't mean it isn't worth the effort to work to eliminate it. But realize that it's an uphill battle, and there is a very large supply of bigots to deal with. The best you can hope for is to change the minds of just a few people now and then.

Two main reasons.

First, everyone has their own opinion. They may be different from yours, but that's just the way it goes. Opinions are not "right" or "wrong," they're just different.

Second, the statement that you're referring to is an ideal solution to a problem in an ideal world...unfortunately, in the real world it's an unrealistic solution to a complex problem that will never happen because we, as human beings, cannot overcome our natural instincts. We're not perfect - we never will be - and the best we can do is, well, the best we can do. It's one thing to realize your limitations and work around them; it's another thing entirely to ignore them and seek an unrealistic solution to a realistic problem.

Additional Comment: Hmmm, I don't see anywhere in here where I implied complacency. Guess that's just your opinion at work.

A hint for the future: when you ask a question, be ready for the answer. If you don't get the answer you're looking for, then that's just tough toodles. Life isn't perfect....which is what I've been saying all along.

Recognizing your limitations and working around them, as I originally said, is a drastically different thing that "shutting the door to the world."

Maybe you should open your mind up just a tad and re-read both your question and my response.

they have had to placed the blinders on as respects the parts of the Bible they or no human being else can clarify away. they basically ignore about those factors and proceed on to the factors that help them have 'faith'. In different words they search for preachers, sermons, web pages, different contributors of the congregation to keep up their convictions. that's to those factors of the Bible they turn to take care of non-believers. they're going to destroy down each and every note of chosen verses attempting to educate a element, yet ignore about an complete e book of the Bible if it in least offends their preconceived reviews. maximum who study the Bible, study it in peace meal fashion. they don't address a topic with information from the context of an complete e book, yet with information from random verse skipping from the former testomony to the recent without lacking a beat. you do not must be an atheist to get this reaction from Christians. you could basically be agnostic or perchance a theist and nonetheless get their ire up, with information from not filing to maximum human beings rule.

Well the reasons are far beyond your grasp :)

Basically I felt the answer was the wrong thing to do and for the most part was very vague and didn't even really answer the question.

Oh and I thumbed down this question because I felt like it.

It is because people are ignorant and it is more fun to insult someone then it is to work for meaningful conversation.
