Due to some recent legal trouble that could very well mean the rest of life in jail, is "turning states evidence" something to consider? Mainly because of the types of charges and the connection to other people, and knowing that in this situation the other people would only be thinking about themselves.

"some recent legal trouble that could very well mean the rest of life in jail" You sound like a real gem of a citizen. I can't tell YOU what to do because it appears you have already made up your mind to be a "rat" For me, never happen, I prefer to take my chances like a man that is responsible for my own actions. You justify "rolling over" by "presuming" how others would think.
Dangerous game your playing when you decide to be a "rat", you open the door for revenge.

Never ever tell on anyone, if you do the crime then be a man and do the time, or women. That is the chicken way out of it. How would you feel if someone you knew turned against you and turned you in? Snitches are the worse, and usually it catches up to them at some point. It not only puts you jeopardy but your entire family. It's just a weak thing to do, it's working for the cops, if you wanted to work for the cops, then you should have joined the police academy.

If you know you did something wrong, then the only honorable thing to do is to confess and assist the authorities in rendering justice. If that means that as a reward for your cooperation you receive a lighter or commuted sentence, then sobeit.
If you're innocent, then defend your innocence.

It is, but there is also a downside. You are snitching on someone, and there could be payback in store for you in terms of retribution. People who do crime have a very low opinion of rats.
