Cake mix no problem.
Problem foods like meat and dairy will say "Use by". Foods with little risk like flour, sugar, salt and spices etc. will say "Best before".
But if you aren't sure then send it to me and I will dispose of it properly.

It really depends on the product and the label. If it says expiration date verses sell by date you need to make a choice. Expiration date means that it is no longer good by then. A sell by date means that the store must sell it by then or it will go bad in 2-4 days (if not frozen!). The cake mix is probably not going to kill you, but I wouldn't use it.

For cake mix, I would say 20 days is fine--little time for anything dangerous to develop, especially if kept well dry. Main risk could be that taste is less good. Generally speaking, the acceptable delay depends a lot on overall conservation period (i.e. 20 days is not the same for a product that you could initially consume during 2 years or 2 days)

Dry ingredients like cake mix should be OK, especially after only 20 days. Some foods, like flour and crackers, are going to have a long shelf life, but the crackers will get stale, and the flour may get moldy eventually. You especially have to worry about things like milk and eggs.

technically, yes, it is more than likely still edible. However, realize that those type of dry mixes have very long shelf lives, so it is probably already years old if it has expired. some of the ingredients will be broken down due to the age. for example, it probably won't rise as well because of the old yeast and chocolate might taste a little chalky. but it should't kill you!

It's probably fine. If it was something that spoils, like any kind of milk (real or soy or almond or rice, doesn't matter), then I would say no, but cake mix is not an issue.
