Your dog has trained you very well to cater to its every whim. If you want your dog to eat a balanced diet then you have to be strict with feeding and the times you set. Decide on which dog food you are going to feed and stick to it. Which food is up to you but please try to avoid foods which have added sugar and additives - your dog does not need these things in his diet. Then decide on the meal times and how often you feed your dog. I would reccommend you feed morning and evening splitting the daily amount between the two feeding times. Then stick to the new routine. For example if your dog does not eat the morning meal after 20 mins take it away and do not offer anything else - no treats/chews, nothing. Then at the next scheduled feeding time ie 6pm (evening) give the rest of the food (daily allowance). If the dog does not eat then take it away after 20 mins and do not offer anything else - no treats/chews, nothing. Keep repeating this untill the dog eats. If it has been more than 4 days and still refuses to eat then go to the vets. Always allow access to fresh water and replace water when the food is put down. No healthy dog will starve its self and they will eat when ready.Remember they can survive several days without food. You just have to be patient and consisitant because your dog has learnt that it will get something better if its holds out. And you will feel guilty if your dog has not eaten for a few days - thats just how we are. If your dog stops drinking water then go to the vet asap.

I raise yorkies. first no dog should be fed only human food. Second there are a lot of puppy mill pups out there. third these dogs have very sensative stomaches. You didn't say the age of your dog.
when switching your dogs food you always mix it with the food it was eating to introduce it. use a high quality food not walmart brand. Not soft foods. or you will get the poopy but syndrom as i call it. With such problems I would go for the science diet. sesative stomach brand. Soften the food in water and flavor with the meat balls that you are using put a little in and some hot water to flavor the food. If you have to hand feed at first then do so. My youngest is 1 year old now and finially stopped throwing up. so age has something to do with it too. i think they may tend to eat a little to fast sometimes too. They don't understand but I did change her food.

Don't feed your dog human food, especially fried chicken, steak and meat balls. Those foods are high in fat for people, I shudder at the thought of what it is doing to your dogs weight.
Firstly, you need to take your dog to a vet to make sure he does not have any intestinal problems such as enteritis given the diarreah and vomitting.
However, I feel your question is misleading. I do not see how your dog can get diarreah from not eating. If his intestines were empty he should have nothing to poop out...
Most dogs benefit from being fed once a day, usually in the morning, and a small amount at that. Brands such as Eukanuba and Hill's Science Diet have the measurements your dog should be fed each day according to their breed and weight. (However if your dog is overweight, what with the fried chicken and all, you may want to put him on a calorie restricted diet for awhile.. however this should only be done under the recommendation of a veterinarian).
Your dog will not starve to death if he refuses to eat dog food. You just need to remain vigilent and not give in and feed him human food. In the morning bring a bowl of measured dog food out. If he does not eat it, take it away and ensure he does not eat ANYTHING for the entire day (this means securing household garabage cans as dogs can find many yummy treats in here). By the next day your dog will have a hungry little belly and his dog food will look just as good as any of that southern fried chicken he was fed before.

Human food is not for dogs. You are giving it positive feedback for a negative behavior.
Stop feeding it the human food. Put down dog food for it two to three times per day for 15 minutes at a time. If it doesn't eat it doesn't eat. DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING ELSE DURING THE DAY. Eventually when it is hungry enough it will eat the food placed in front of it. It will not starve itself. I know that I will get some negative ratings for this answer. But I am a Vet Tech and have seen the problems feeding human food can make and the dog will not starve itself. I also owned a Yorkie. Right now you are not the leader of your pack, the yorkie is. Do not hand feed it.
Water should be availible at all times.

You need to be very careful. My Yorkie developed panceatitis...usually brought on by feeding high fat/rich human food. She doesn't get human scraps from us; but we did have a party a few days before she started her symptoms (vomiting/diarrhea) and think someone at the party though she was "cute" and fed her some treats.
Anyway we had to rush her to the vet--she ended up having to spend 48 hours there hooked up to IVs and what not. After the XRays and other diagnostics we spent near $1000 to find out what was wrong and to treat her. If we would have ignored it, she most certainly would have died.
So...since you've got a Yorkie; and they are known to have sensitive digestive systems. AND you have made the situation worse by feeding him/her the wrong foods--I think you need to take the pup to the vet. Get their stomach calmed down, then change them over to dog food. Trust me, the other answerers are right, when the dog gets hungry enough it will eat. Just make sure you've got a good dog food (your vet can give you a list, or just go to Petsmart or something like that). The better foods are more nutritionally balanced for the dogs and you will notice a lot less waste (er...pooh) from your dog if they are on a good diet. I'm always looking for ways to reduce waste since I've got 3 dogs.
Good luck to your little one.

No this is not normal. The dog knows to hold out for something else that s/he wants. I think it is just spoiled. What I would do is set the dry food out and leave it there for an hour. Put it up until lunch put it down for an hour then put it up for dinner. You also want him to eat on a schedule, this will ensure that he is nibbling here and there trying to wait for meat balls. Just like anything else it will eat for survival. If you dont want to go that drastic then get some beef broth from the store(canned) and put it in the frige over night if you want to remove the fat before feeding it to him. The fat will rise to the top of the can and you can remove it with a spoon. Put some on his dry food to make the transition easier. You could do a combination of both. Put the dry food out for breakfast and lunch and put the broth in it for dinner.

I dog won't starve itself to death!
What you need to do is this, put DOG food down to your dog in the morning, if it doesn't eat it in (lets be generous) 10 minutes, take it up off the floor and DON'T offer anything else until later in the day and if it doesn't eat it then again take it away and DO NOT give it anything else until the following morning, and continue to do this until it eats, obviously if it goes on for a long time then you need to take it to the vet! I hate to say this, but it's eating habits are your fault, where else would it get steak with peppered sauce if you didn't feed it to it? So you have to undo what you have done. NO TITBITS either!!!

Dogs eat when they are hungry. Wait till its hungry and then give it some proper wholesome food. I've yet to hear of a bulemic dog dying though food choice. It may sound harsh, but I think that its not only the dog that has a problem.

Mmmmm you really shouldn't feel such rich foods to your dog, no wonder its sick, it must have some really stomach problems! Have you tried rice with NO curry sauce or pasta. Our dog loves rice with peas in it and plain pasta, you can also buy chicken mince try mixing that in with the rice.
Your dog will eat it if its left long enough and you refuse to give it any thing else and any thing from your plate, he wont stay hungry for long.
i surguessed you take it to the vet to, to check the diaerhoa problems!
