Most "tax guys", simply use the exact same programs they have in the store, they just charge you for it.
Unless the "tax guy" you are referring to is a CPA or a tax accountant, youd probably be better off with the software.
Personally, if you are a sole proprietorship, and I suspect you are, your taxes are not that hard to do, and Id learn how to do them myself before spitting out $300 for anything.

CPA firms may be a bit pricey but it could be worth it especially if your financial situation is complex. Also it's good to go with a more established CPA firm when dealing with that first tax return after a major "life change" because they also provide a sort of financial check-up. After that you can complete your tax returns on your own and consult them on an as needed basis if you'd like.
You may also want to check with your local bank or credit union because they sometimes offer tax services to their customers as well. If you do choose to go to an H&R Block or a Jackson Hewitt PLEASE get all of the fees up front before they process your return and see if they offer audit protection. I ‘m not against those types of places I just don’t like the way they sometimes prey on unsuspecting consumers and all those hidden fees.

Last year I used Turbo Tax and it was very simple and a lot cheaper than it would have been to go to a tax agency. They have the software for Schedule C which I think you need if you have a business.

I save the cost of the software and the cost of the e filing all together almost 20 to 30 dollars :) ). You can find Turbo Tax . Tax Cut and others.

i would try turbo tax online. you don't have to pay until you are done, so if you find that in the process you might need to go see someone instead, it won't cost you anything. it is a great online service, and very detailed, so you will probably be able to get by using that.

It all depends on how much you know about the Internal Revenue Code and the Treasury Regulations. If you know as much as your tax preparer, then do them yourself. If you don't, then have them do it. It's kind of like car repair. One other thing - returns prepared by professionals don't get audited nearly as frequently as home cooked jobs.
