Then why have Christians been involved in more holy wars than any other group in the history of the world?

And why is it OK to murder a race or a group of religious people just because they do it in the "name of God?"

If you believe killing in a time of war is the same as murder, this will be a difficult question to answer. But if you believe some wars are justified (protection of property and people, way of life), then that is not what this commandment is addressing.

Those who kill in the name of God often have an another motive. Most wars throughout history have been about economics or power struggles covered with the name of religion. I guess it makes it easier to kill another human being over greed.

First of all "Thou" anything is the King's English, and Moses didn't speak like that, he spoke Hebrew. "Thee" and "Thou" do not belong in the Torah, it is just another thing done to our holy scriptures by the Church that doesn't belong there. It was God who said "You shall not murder", not Moses. Murder, defined by Jewish law given by God at that time, means the unwarranted taking of life. Killing, on the other hand, is the taking of a life when necessary - such as in a war, or when you have irrefutable proof (such as from the person's own lips) that someone is coming to murder you or your family. Killing and murder are not the same thing, according to Jewish law. This is why the commandment is "You shall not murder" - which is taking a life for no good reason. Please try to remember that it's our Jewish holy book (the Tanach/Torah, what you call the "old testament"), and the only correct meanings for it are Jewish meanings, not anyone else's. This will help you when searching for what anything in there actually means, if you go to the authentic source for it.

apparently you are mistaking human ambition in the name of God with God's Word and His will. It is never ok to murder a race or group of people in the name of God. Christians who truly wish and desire to follow God's Word and His commands take the commandment of "You shall not Kill" very seriously. That is why we are so against the deliberate and callous murdering of unborn humans. It never ceases to amaze me when atheists make this accusation but most are for the killing of the unborn.

The Bible is full of Holy wars, but these were Gods war or devine judgement on nations. There were good reasons for these Holy wars, but today there is no reason to have them.

Jesus said: “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:35) Such love reaches across racial, social, and national boundaries, drawing people together in genuine brotherhood. So strong is this love that it sets them apart as being truly different. When the nations go to war, who have enough love for their Christian brothers in other lands that they refuse to take up arms and kill them? That is what early Christians did.
Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword. Matthew 26:52

Because God did not say it. There is no god (big or small letters). There is never an acceptable reason for murder (defining "murder" as a deliberate act on an innocent -- obviously this does not apply to self-defense) because this life is all we have and there is no "second chance".

"churchianity" has no resemblence to true worship of the true Almighty. In "Old Testament" times, when YHVH was truly in charge, the wars were His, and needed to be done. Since then, various dreamers have been leading people after themselves, and not following YHVH, and this old world is a mess. The name of YHVH is blasphemed among the nations because of "believers" who do not follow the Scriptures. (Ro. 2:24)

The Christians who killed and raged war in God's name were not following God's will. They thought they were but they were not. The only time God told his people to kill was in the old Testament when he was establishing his followers from among the heathen nations at the time who would kill them off if they didn't defend themselves. But at the coming of the son of God, Jesus now says that we should turn the other cheek. Mercy prevails now and therefore we should follow Christ.

I've asked this and apparently it's fine to kill if you have some reason but the commandment pertains only to murder. Strange.

God didn't say it. God never said anything!
Don't humanise God. It is not a He or a She, God does not have a body and does not speak or hear or see.

The Universe is God. And no one told you not to kill or lie or steal. Go ahead and do it. All you have to be prepared for, is to face the consequences. The universe balances everything out, and every action of yours will cause an equal and opposite reaction TO YOU. Do good, get good. Do bad, get bad.
