Okay. I'm currently slated to attend AIT as an 88M. That would be 7 weeks, which is perfect. But I have a feeling that my MOS is going to be changed. I've been told to have a second choice in mind, but I'm not sure about any other MOS's. I know I shouldn't choose an MOS based on AIT duration, but for my current circumstances, an MOS with a shorter AIT is what I have in mind. I wondering if y'all had any suggestions. About 6-8 weeks is good...10-13 the max.

I've already completed BCT and am waiting to attend AIT. My original MOS was 92A, which was 13 weeks. A little bit long for me, but I chose it because it seemed like something I'd like. I wouldn't choose an MOS that I didn't LIKE just because of a short AIT. It's just that I would PREFER an MOS with a shorter AIT.

I doubt that Motor Transport Operator (88M) are about to be phased out but if you want to look for similar jobs, try going to:

http://www.goarmy.com

specifically Transportation and Aviation which is:

http://www.goarmy.com/JobCatDetail.do?id=10

It lists the job description and the amount of training required

Don't make a decision based on the amount of time required to learn the job. What would you really like to do?

Short AIT's mean one thing: crap job. Whenever a job comes with a short AIT it means any idiot can do it and your promotion potential normally reflects that. I know sticking out a long AIT can suck but the extra few weeks normally means better promotion potential and less details when you get to your unit.

Don't pick a job based on the length of AIT because even though it says "3 weeks" you could be there for many more weeks as a hold under or a hold over. I spent an extra month in AIT and basic just waiting to get into training!!! Besides, by the end of AIT you are already given a bunch of freedom and flexibility anyway. Look into 15P or flight operations, that is fairly short and it is a decent job. Granted short AIT= being a b*tch for anyone that outranks you.

If they say 7 weeks then that will in reality be 7-20 weeks before you finish. Most likely about 12 weeks. You are talking about the army correct? Don't worry about the MOS's AIT length. Worry about the MOS you will be stuck with for the next few years. If you are trying to get around time then from my personal experiences don't ever leave for bootcamp. You have to be ready to practically give up 4-8 years of your life entirely. You don't make any decisions once you get on that plane. And AIT is just as strict or worse than bootcamp. I joined for all the wrong reasons(money&benefits). Just wasn't worth my time personally but I hope you have a better experience. Diesel mechanic is fairly short I believe. So is Aviation Ordnance.

88M will actually be a little bit longer because of the inprocessing, but you'll be okay. For females, you aren't eligible for the shorter combat arms jobs like 13M (3 weeks)...

DONT base your job on how long the training is. some jobs have long training and you work all day, some have short training and you work all day. do what interests you because 2 or 3 years later it can get old-fast.
