We bought our car on sat arvo, and on saturday evening we were driving and got caught in the middle of a police pursuit. The car that they were pursuing hit our car, and then took off with police in toe. The car was stolen, and we hadnt insured our car yet. They havent caught the guy yet and we are wondering if there is any hope for us, even if they dont catch him??

Sorry I forgot to mention when I first posted that we are in Australia, and insurance is not compulsory... For those that responded already thanks! Though it does seem bleak!

Cantact the Police about the crash.Just tell them what happened.
I was told that they would not let you drive the car off a car dealer lot without insurance. If you bought it from a private party with no
insurance,NO.

What bad luck! In Missouri, you have to have insurance before you drive off the lot with the car, if you are dealing with a reputable company. Is this your first car or did you trade one in that was insured? If you did have insurance, check with your insurance rep. If you didn't, and if they find the car or knows who owns it, you may be able to have the owner file a claim. Best bet would be to talk with the police. They really cannot give you a ticket now for not having insurance, and they could offer you some advise. You might check and see if your state has a victims compensation fund that could help. Hope you weren't injured! Good luck.

There's a good chance that your insurance will NOT cover the theft since you left the engine running. Leaving the engine running is just asking for it to be stolen. And as your license is suspended the insurance coverage is normally void if you are driving it. With both of these situations in play, it doesn't look good that you will get anything from the insurance company. Pray that the cops recover it and that it isn't seriously damaged when they do.

I'm sorry to say this, but you need to disregard anyone who suggests you may be able to recover anything. It's illegal to drive without insurance. Even if you believe you should be covered by the stolen vehicle's policy, you will not be. No insurance company would pay out to you for one reason: you were never supposed to be on the road in the first place. To operate a vehicle on public roads requires insurance, licensing, and registration. If you do not have ALL of those then you cannot recover damages even if it was clearly the other party's fault. Insurance policies are all very clear on this. Sorry, but it's going to have to come out of your pocket.

Not much. If the other car is stolen then the insurance will not be liable for any damages to your vehicle. You have one hope: if you had insurance on another vehicle when you purchased your new one then your existing policy will most likely extend to your new car under a 'newly aquired vehicle' clause in your policy. IF you have a policy, that is.

How did you buy a car with no insurance coverage? They NEVER let me finance $5 on
a car without having it covered by insurance.

You paid cash?
