Because out here it is called animal cruelty. Our culture though it was made up of tons of different things was not one that saw eating dogs as civil or wel ( some will disagree ) and out here animals at least we are supposed to take care of and theres many laws like with humans protecting them.

I can't begin to describe how annoying it is to hear people bash other cultures because it is "cruel and disgusting". It just isn't logical that butchering a cow is less cruel than a dog. These dogs were raised on farms the way cows are. There is no difference. I have yet to have a Hindu friend tell me how horrible and cruel it is that I eat hamburgers, and I think most of you would be offended/pissed off that someone would attack the food that you consider normal.

If you're a vegetarian/vegan, it totally makes sense to not "get" why people eat dogs because it transcends to all animals. For the meat eaters of the world, how can you justify this?

And for the record I've also eated guinea pig. Yep.

And as an addendum, I'm glad the question was asked in a non-rude way. My rant was directed at the idiots who are closeminded, not at the question asker. :)

Americans are moral that's why! Koreans don't care about animals. Animals are just animals. But in America, we have the animal humane societies and animal rights and all that. Anyways I don't think people in Korea eat dog stew anymore. I'm Korean and my parents don't like it either. They think it's gross. Also, dog stew probably came about around after the Korean War when Korea was at a very poor economic state. They didn't have any food so they probably ate things like dogs and frogs. It's not something to make fun of . It's actually pretty sad.

Probably because there is no market for it. People from different parts of the world usually eat meat they they grew up eating. Americans did not grow up eating horses, dogs, goat. Stores stock lamb but rarely mutton. We grew up eating certain foods and unless that food long longer exists or become too expensive to eat then people will not switch to other meats.

my father once said to us that its their food (for those who consume dogs meat). it would be the same like us eating other meat such as chicken, lamb etc. so we must not say bad things about them (them as in people who consume dogs meat).

i myself would find it sad if someone consume dogs meat perhaps due to the pets reason. but to see my own neighbor raising their puppies yet consume them on Xmas eve, that is totally sick and cruel, as they would put the puppies (who they named as well) into a sack, tied the sack up, then beat the puppies until they make no noise. that was just horrible living next to them. you think after the 1st or 2nd year you seen what they would do to the puppies (we watched secretly from our window while crying and choking), heard how the puppies would cry from very loud noise to the dead silence, you would get use to it, but we can never get use to it.

i am glad i dont live next to them no more. unfortunately nothing can be done, as to some society, dogs meat are their food same as our chicken or lamb or cow.

I find some of the answers baffling. It's cruel and disgusting to eat a dog (yes it is) but apparently not cruel and disgusting to eat pigs and cows? Anyway I'm vegetarian so I can't help being amused when the cow-eaters and dog-eaters begin to squabble.

They are usually golden-retrievers or labs, cause they have lots of meat. I know this, as I used to live in Korea.

I don't see a difference in pork, beef, chicken, or dog meat.

The only reason that people find dog meat gross is because they keep them as pets.

But, imagine this: if you had a cow, or pig for your whole life as a pet, would you eat it? I think the answer would be no, because you would be so "attached" to it.

I don't think it's a good idea. I personally won't try it, but in some tropical countries like part of Sumatran Island in Indonesia they do eat dog's meat.

Probably because we don't think of dog as palatable meat. YUK!
I do believe it is against the law (for restaurants) to use any meat not USDA inspected.
