Main things affected by diabetes are:
~the pancreas: diabetes causes you to not produce enough or no insulin
~your feet: diabetes is hard on your feet, and it has something to do with the bloodflow. there are pecial diabetic socks
~ your eyes: diabetic people must get their eyes checked very often to avoid diabetic retinotherapy which can cause blindness
~your lungs: sometimes diabetes and cystic fibrosis are linked (like me)
~kidneys: the sugar in your pee caused by diabetes can affect kidneys
~heart: diabetic people are more likely to die of a heart attack than any other reason
~practically every other organ

Everything is affected by diabetes, because the pancreas (where the cells live that prodice insulin to process and store sugar) can't clear sugar, so it stays in your blood and gets pumped to every single organ. Guess what bacteria like to eat? SUGAR! So you have all this great bacteria food getting pumped all through the body and you get more infections. The blood is thicker and harder to pump due to the change in weight (osmolarity) from all the sugar, so you end up with changes in blood pressure and heart muscles weaken. Because you're not pumping blood through your extremities as fast and the vessels work harder, you get damage to the vasculature (vessels); blood vessels burst in the eye and cause blindness, and blood pools in the feet and causes infection and edema. The bladder is prone to infection because the body tries to pee out excess sugar (think bacteria food!). The kidneys have trouble pumping the volume so you get kidney failure. If that progresses, a transplant might be needed.
Get the picture? Diabetes affects the entire metabolism.
In Type 1, the beta cells in the pancreas have stopped working and do not produce insulin. You have to replace it by giving insulin shots.
In Type 2, the beta cells are still working but the body's receptors are not, so the signals to the pancreas go wrong and not enough insulin is being produced. You can make them wotk by using certain drugs, but eventually they will tire and wear out and quit working. The longer you can keep weight down and diet healthy, the longer you can avoid being on insulin, but it will happen eventually.

The entire body is effected by diabetes. The pancreas is the organ that produces insulin and when it doesn't function properly then diabetes develops. The other organs and the nervous system are effected due to the improper function.

Diabetes will effect every part of the body eventually. A lot of people with diabetes gets a condition that I have called gastroparesis. Its where your stomach is paralyzed and it makes it difficult to eat and includes nausea, vomiting, and other GI tract problems.

mainly pancreas where insulin is being produced. but it may cause multi-organ failure (affects other major organs in the body such as heart, kidneys, liver etc.) if the diabetes becomes uncontrollable.
