Two weeks ago I was sick with a low grade fever, muscle aches, stuffy/runny nose, and was coughing up mucus. After trying OTC medicine I went to the doctor and was perscribed Azithromycin. A week after completing my perscription my symptoms came back and once again I was perscribed Azithromycin. With one dose left to take I have not gotten any better. What could this be?

It sounds like a normal upper respiratory infection; but rather than giving you more of the same antibiotic, perhaps they should have prescribed a stronger one.

I agree it's an infection, but I don't think they should keep prescribing antibiotics just like that... ask your doctor to do a culture of your mucus or something like it, that way you'll know for sure what it is you have and your doctor can give a more accurate prescription

Sounds like a cold. I wonder what the azithromycin was supposed to do. There's something here that doesn't add up.

the doctor will have to change the percription that he gave you.Whatever he gave you is not working for the strain of virus or infection that you have. There is other medications that will work on a lot of viruses while others just work on a few.If you call or go back to your doctor he will see what he percribed is not working and will change your medication...The medication that he is giving you is a good medicine, its just not working on your kind of virus/infection or whatever you have....i have had that done to me before and the doc had to give me something that worked better for me...You can probably just call him...
