Tryptophan. It's an amino acid that can be converted to melatonin (which causes drowsiness).

It is NOT a myth.

The chemical in turkey (Tryptophan) can cause sleepiness. When broken down and mixed up with other chemicals in the body, it can make you sleepy. It can also induce a food coma (harmless). Don't be afraid of Turkey, there is a slim chance of going into a food coma, and that wears off quickly.
