From the Wikipedia: In October 2006, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported incorrectly that Vegemite was banned in the USA, with Customs officials going so far as to search Australians for Vegemite when they enter the country. The origin of the story appears to have been an anecdote from a traveler who claims to have been searched, and a spokesperson for Kraft Foods who made a misinformed comment to reporters.
So, NO. Vegemite, while not LIKED in the U.S. in general, is not banned from the U.S..

I read greenghost's answer too, he is one of my faves on here .I think he could be right. Apparently yeast and/or yeast products i.e. marmite and vegemite are banned in some countries due to being potentially explosive !!
If I was PM of Great Britain I'd ban Marmite here , 'cos it tastes minging IMHO!!! LOL!!!

Vegemite is not illegal and in fact used in many commercial soups and stews to give it a "meaty taste". The place I used to work in imported dozens of different kinds. Look for the words yeast extract, and hydrolized vegetable protein.

it was in the news here in oz a couple of months ago because apparantly the only products that you are allowed to have that contain folate are breads and cereals (vegemite is niether and contains folate) so apparantly you weren't allowed to bring it into the country.
however i heard on the radio some guy from the relevant authority saying that it was a myth and a rumour and that you were allowed vegemite.
so i dunno, i don't see why not, vegemite is good for you (world's richest known source of vitamin B)
uve just reminded me to go have some

Whether or not it was "officially" banned, you cannot buy it in any stores now in my city (Winnipeg). I have looked, trust me. They stopped importing it to Canada (and probably the USA as well).
The company says it did not sell well enough to import it.
