It could be a bad case of bronchitis, but it could even be pneumonia or even TB, if there is blood coming up. Regardless it is imperative that he be seen and treated. If he has had this cough for a month it will not go away by itself and may need antibiotics.

The symptoms that you listed, kind of sound to me like TB (tuberculosis). But thats just the worse case possible. Now what it could also be, is a upper respitory infection caused by influenza or an advanced case of the common cold (Bhronchitis). One other possibility could be this, if he takes hot showers and turns on the water and gets right in, the bacteria that sits in the shower head from "still standing water" can release into the shower and the steam from the hot water acts as a carrier and is inhaled. The bacteria sticks to the upper portion of the respitory system causing bleeding from infection. This can sometimes be mistaken for Tuberculosis, and the means of testing for tuberculosis are scarry ones at that. Still you should have him go to the Dr.s A S A P, especially if there are blood clots found in the mucus. The feeling of wanting to throw up are from coughing so much, the diaphram retracts and is located around the stomach area and can sometimes cause nausia...
i hope this information is useful to you and that your son gets better.

A cough is basically there to try to remove phlegm and mucus from the lungs.
As for the spots of blood, this may be due to the act of coughing, it may be pinpoint hemorrhages either in the lungs or throat.
Drag him to see a Doctor!
A cough can easily turn into something much worse with no visible transition, he must be careful!
ANY illness lasting a month should be medically checked!

Wow mom. what the heck! BLOOD !... I think your Son is in denial and/or maybe doesnt care very much about himself if he hasnt seen a Dr. Yet.
Alas... he is 22 and considered an adult by many many standards. and you cannot make the decision for him. Maybe he just wants to make his own choices. Seeing a Dr. is one of them.
As adults we choose to take care of our bodies. If he does not want to do this, then let him know that you are out of the picture now. If he wants TB or whatever it is he caught then so be it.
You can lead a horse to water but cannot make him drink.

His stomach may be upset due to the excessive strain caused by the coughing. Also, the blood may be coming from deterioration of the throat and mucous linings. Or, it could be that he has a serious illness that is irritating his respiratory system so bad that it is causing bleeding. In any case, get him to a doctor or hospital ASAP!!!

You better let the stubborn kid know he has a bad respiratory infection that will most likely become pnemonia, if it isn't already. What's his problem that he won't see someone, does he like being really ill?
