I have given up a 35 year smoking habit. It has only been a week but that is the longest I have been ciggie free in all those years. Any tips from ex-smokers?

Went from 40 a day, some times more to nil 15 years ago if you really want too give up you will. I did not stay away from smokers just went about things normally.The main thing is you really must want to quit not just be doing it to please someone else it is in you too do it good luck. Sorry no new years resolution.

Congratulations. I have just done the same thing. You will quickly find that you have more energy and if you suffered from breathlessness that too will go away. I take each day at a time reminding myself of all the reasons I quit smoking on a daily basis. I also reward myself, buying a little something that makes me feel special with the money I save. I also found it helpful to put aside the money you spent on cigarettes and have a goal of what you would like to do with the money in a year or so. For me it is going on a trip that I would otherwise not be able to afford. The sky is the limit as to what you can put the money towards and it helps reward yourself for making such an important decision and sticking to it.

All I can tell you is that I believe it is much harder to quit smoking than to quit drinking, which I managed to do about twenty years ago. I wish someone were there with you to monitor you every day to make absolutely certain you and cigarettes were never in the same room together for at least three months in a row. That would be a good beginning. Do you realise how much you are doing for your own good health by stopping - ? It is just amazing, plus your clothing will stop reeking of stale cigarette smoke and your breath will start smelling better, your appetite will come back, and you will sleep better, and the draperies in the living room of your friend you just visited will not hold the smell of cigarette smoke for four days after your visit. I strongly encourage you to find someone you deeply trust to monitor you on a daily basis, either with visits or phone calls or whatever works, to make absolutely certain you stay away from cigarettes for at least ninety days for a smart. This will provide you with a good basis for wanting to stay with your quitting program. I can only send you good energies from where I am, and I hope you will stay with it, because your quality of life down the line will be so much better and your end years will not be a horror story. (I am 63 years old and I cannot tell you how much better my own quality of life is without drink in it. 2007 marks year 20 of no drinking. I cannot believe it has been that long. It can be done, and you can do it. I hope my words will inspire you because they are literally the God's honest truth for you to consider.

My resolution is to treat my body better. i.e less alcohol, more fruit n veg, more exercise and more sleep (Guess I failed that one already :-p)

My Dad has been clean for over a year now and I think he had been smoking for longer than 35years. He used patches for a while but they actually made him feel ill. He used to suck on lolly pops as well to ease off the 'hand to mouth' habbit. Eventually he just had to go cold turkey and quit by sheer will power and determination.

I gave up 3 months ago and it has been a struggle but i think i'm over the worst now and feel a lot better.Hang on in there, its gets easier by the day.

My resolution was just to be happy and healthy.Mostly the health issue because the past year was really unkind to me.

I made one years ago not to make any more New Years resolutions. It has been the easiest one to keep I ever made!!!
