i live in a very active neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, and i was just elected chairman for parties and everything! i am so excited, but i need your ideas! thanks a bunch!

why don't you do a house decorating party. Pick a theme, have the kids and parents get involved. nothing too extravagent, but if you plan on having an outdoor type event. It will help to make the block look festive.
Another idea is have a progressive dinner. Ask for willing participants and have a list who are different families that will be hosting. Peolple can walk around to different houses, mingle with one another and eat some finger foods (appetizers, sandwhiches, chips and dip, dessert) along the way.

Make activities appropriate for the age group, safe, and fun. Some suggested activities are listed below:
Bike decorating contest
Games like twister, limbo, bingo and croquet
Story time/kids read-a-thon
Obstacle course
Watermelon-eating contest (no hands is fun!)
Art contests (use sidewalk chalk for this or for 4-square and hopscotch games)
Volleyball
Dominoes and card games (try to set tables in shade)
Cake walk
Horse shoes
Visits from City fire fighters, police officers and refuse workers (check the appropriate space on the registration form to request visits) always please the kids.
Scavenger hunts
Neighborhood trivia contest
Display old neighborhood pictures or memorabilia
Water games (shaving cream and balloons are essential)

Egg toss
Face painting
Live band or other music/dancing
Crafts and baked goods
Relay races (try balancing an egg on a spoon)
Keep it simple. Potluck dinners are easiest for beginners. Since many people are near their homes it is probably convenient for them to use their own facilities and utensils. Ask neighbors to bring their own lawn chairs to the picnic site.

I would ask the teens what they would to do at the party. As far as food, have everybody bring a dish to pass. That way, you are not doing all the work and there will be plenty of food.

those are going to be everywhere yet the place are you i might swing with tips from on the Harley for a brewski. Edit...Chi huh grew up over there in a small city called Lemont stay in Western MI now so its on for a brew in 2012.
