I was just curious if I was at a highr risk for contracting STD's. I have had an alternative lifestyle but have only been with 1 person since I lost my spleen. Should I be taking extra precautions in my sex life.

I've never heard not having a spleen will cause you to be more likely to get STD's. Especially since you don't use it in sexual intercourse. So even if you are a lesbian I think your chances of getting a STD because you have no spleen is absurd. Having unprotected sex with a guy/girl can get you a STD. Read a health book! Good luck!

Whether you have a spleen or not, you should be using precautions- a dental dam for oral sex, condoms for toys and so on. Without a spleen you are at higher risk for just about any infection, so with STD's in mind you should consider fewer partners and more committed, faithful relationships, or sexual activity that does not involve exchange of body fluids.

It would be good to have a frank discussion with an infectious disease doctor about your sexual orientation and what impact your immune system sans a spleen might have.

Whatever your sexual orientation, I'd like to see everyone taking "extra precautions."

I've never heard of additional sexual health risks in asplenic lesbians. You didn't indicate what precautions you are currently taking, so it is difficult to advise on what would be "extra". It is wise to take precautions in your sex life whether you have a spleen or not.

Have a talk with your GP or OB/GYN.

Spleen or not, you should be taking precautions against STDs.

You DO need immunizations that someone with a spleen doesn't need. Again, ask a doctor.

you are more at risk if you lick alot of strange junk versus fewer partners and protection. your missing spleen has less of a role than your behavior.

I don't think these two things have anything to do with each other, why don't you educate yourself
