Although both are viral infections, Herpes is caused by Herpes Simplex virus, and warts by human papilloma virus. Read about them both @ http://www.dph.sf.ca.us/HealthInfo/std_warts.htm and http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/stdherp.htm.
Please remember that HIv is also a virus infection, and that any infection weakens your natural defences.

They both can be sexually transmitted. BUT herpes and warts look totally different and are caused by totally different viruses. Herpes by herpes type I or type II virus and warts usually by some version of the human papilloma virus. You may have gotten the herpes from your new girlfriend(herpes lesions can sometimes be hard to see), but the herpes has nothing to do with genital warts.
