The nearest to it in Medical terms is 'GOUT".

This is caused by an accumulation of uric acid in joints, tendons, ligaments etc. causing excruciating pain in the respective areas.

Uric acid is formed as a by-product of the metabolism of purine and pyrimidine bases of high protein foodstuffs and drinks.

Red meat, pulses, and alcoholic drinks intake are some of the predisposing factors.

I'm a pharmacist. Gout is a condition caused by a build up of uric acid in the body. Uric acid is cleared by the kidney. In some people, the elimination of uric acid is blocked, causing a build up in the body. Uric acid in high concentrations, will crystallize, causing pain in the big toe.

Medications used to treat gout include allopurinol, indomethacin. Ask your doctor about these medications.

Gout

Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease due to an inborn disorder of the uric acid metabolism. In this condition monosodium urate crystals are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints and in the particular tissue like tendons. This provokes an inflammatory reaction of these tissues. These deposits often increase in size and burst through the skin to form sinuses discharging a chalky white material.

Normally, the human bloodstream only carries small amounts of uric acid. However, if the blood has an elevated concentration of uric acid, uric acid crystals are deposited in the cartilage and tissue surrounding joints. Elevated blood levels of uric acid can also result in uric kidney stones.

you mean GOUT ARTHRITIS not GAUT bcoz GAUT is i think surname. anyway, here's the definition:

Gout is medical condition characterized by abnormally elevated levels of uric acid in the blood, recurring attacks of joint inflammation (arthritis), deposits of hard lumps of uric acid in and around the joints, and decreased kidney function and kidney stones.

Gout has the unique distinction of being one of the most frequently recorded medical illnesses throughout history. It is often related to an inherited abnormality in the body's ability to process uric acid. Uric acid is a breakdown product of purines, that are part of many foods we eat. An abnormality in handling uric acid can cause attacks of painful arthritis (gout), kidney stones, and blockage of the kidney tubules with uric acid crystals, leading to kidney failure. On the other hand, some patients may only develop elevated blood uric acid levels (hyperuricemia) without arthritis or kidney problems.

The term "gout" commonly is used to refer to the painful arthritis attacks. It derives from an ancient term "gutta" which referred to arthritis at the base of the big toe over 2000 years ago.

The uric acid crystals were first noted with a microscope by Antonj van Leeuwenhoek in 1684. Alfred Garrod first described the uric acid crystals in the tissues of the skin and joints of patients with gout.

it is a condition where the body deposites uric acid crystals into the joints. It can cause pain, redness and swelling. The most common site is in the great toe. Reduction of protein intake is generally recommended during "flair up" of this condition, because protein is broken down into ammonia and ultimately uric acid.

Its the most common form of arthritis. Urea crystals build up around the joints and since these are sharp in shape, the blood cells that fight desease burst when they try to attach to them. So the joint area usually swells. The joints hurt when they move because of the sharp points of the urea crystals pointing into them. There are medications that can help this condition.

Does it rhyme with pout?

It's an extremely painful foot disease that reoccurs every once in a while, usually triggered by a bump to the foot. It feels like you've sprained your toe. Not sure what it's caused by. Eating berries and soaking your foot in epsom salt dissolved in warm water is usually good home treatment.
