I was watching the movie today with my daughter and noticed that when moses was alone speaking to his brother and when he left the only home he knew he took off his wig. Any suggestions on why they put it in?

that's informative to know that it was an egyptian way. I guess what threw me off was the fact that he was the ONLY one wearing it.

I'm not really sure, but I think it probably has something to do with Egyptian culture. It was a status symbol: the wealthy shaved their heads and wore wigs, the Hebrew slaves wore long hair and beards. When Moses removed the wig, it symbolized his breach with society. When it was with his brother, it was just his way of saying "We're just the two of us now, let's be ourselves." When he finally discarded the wig altogether, it was his way of saying "I'm through with that life; it's over and I'm not going back."

In historic times, wigs were worn among the Egyptians as a royal and official head-dress and to shield their hairless heads from the sun.

Wigs were very popular and worn by men, women and children. They were adorned both inside and outside of the house. Egyptians put on a new wig each day and wigs were greatly varied in styles. The primary function of the wig was as a headdress for special occasions, such as ceremonies and banquets.

Painted coffins from ancient Egypt often show the deceased person wearing a large wig. People wore wigs in real life to special events and on important occasions. This ancient Egyptian wig is made of human hair attached to a net.
