i was exposed to herpes recently and have gone to get checked out every time i have felt any little itch, now i have some massive itching and a couple of little red spots but the doctor says it's not herpes and that at this point (about two and a half weeks from exposure) if i was going to have an outbreak i would have already had it and that there is a 99.9% chance that i am clean. i don't know if maybe the itching and irritation is psychosematic at this point or what. is that possible. it just doesn't feel normal to me.

Well, I would most definately monitor the area. It could be something else instead of herpes. Sometimes even when exposed you luck out and don't catch it. If thats the case, if I were you I would count my lucky stars and not put myself in the position of being exposed to it again. Maybe you should try some hydrocortizome creme (spell check). It could just have been an reactions and not the infection.... But if you continue to feel that way again get another doctors opinion. Those tests are known to make mistakes.... and also, alot of people with herpes dont have outbreaks at all and show no types of symptoms......

it is possible for the doctors to keep administering herpes swab tests and them coming back as false negatives. the first time i went to the doctor to get checked, the doctor looked at my outbreak and told me i didn't have herpes, but irritation from a yeast infection. it was only a few months later on my next outbreak that i found out my correct diagnosis from another doctor. doctor's are not always right. the herpes virus is hard to diagnose at times because to administer the swab test, it should be done at the first signs of skin breaks so that they can catch some of the virus for the tests. if you end up going while you have an outbreak and the sore/sore's are in the beginning/end stages of healing there may not be enough of the virus for the test to come back positive. therefore, giving you false negatives. the doctor may offer you a blood test which is much more accurate. the problem with the blood test though, the results don't tell you if you have herpes 1 (on the mouth,) or herpes 2 (genital.) most people have herpes 1, so doctor's don't usually rely solely on blood tests. good luck. (i have herpes 2 and unfortunately your symptoms sound like an outbreak, though i truly hope it's not.) it's not the end of the world if you do though. i am a clean person, with a clean herpes free bf and i am happy. i was diagnosed a week ago and was put on Valtrex which has helped me immensely. do not feel gross or ashamed because 1 in 4 people have some form of the virus. i would assume if i were you that i had the virus until proven otherwise and have safe sex at all times! take care.

**and please DO NOT listen to the person telling you to apply hydrocortisone cream to the affected areas!!! this will not help and make the outbreak WORSE.

Herpes are red blisters that pop and crust and BURN in the process. Doctors are not psychics...and herpes is not always immediately apparent. If you think there is an issue, go take 5 minutes of your doctors time.....set your mind at ease.

Google picture search: genital herpes if you want examples of what it looks like, but be forewarned, it is gross looking.

Anything is possible, maybe you have something else, like genital warts and herpes.
