The betting period, for the Euro-millions for example, finishes at 19.30 on Fridays in the UK. Everything is registered by computer in a fragment of a second. So why do you guys think it takes them more than one and a half hours to draw the numbers and announce them to the public? I would understand that if I was betting in Germany or Italy (once they are located further east) but not in the UK. Interesting dont you think...???

TAnd the matter goes beyond who's winning the lottery. The winning prize is just part of the big pot (perhaps one fifth, or even less). The amount to be won is anounced before the draw. Who's keeping the remaining cash? Everytime there is a jackpot millions of pound just desapear! Interesting dont you think...???

I will probably be flayed for this answer. I believe you can programme a computer to do as you desire. I will leave a question mark over the lotto draw(s).

If they set up an algorith to generate only combinations of numbers that NOBODY had played, then it would build up the jackpot plenty, and people would get excited, but when nobody hit and the jackpot hit $300 million, then $500 million, then $1 billion, and so on, eventually people would figure it out and give up. However, if the odds of winning the lottery are like 1 in 175,000,000, then anything over $175 million would be a fair bet, so it's possible that the overwhelming jackpot would eventually entice enough ticket purchases that NO combinations of numbers are left unplayed, in which case, someone would have to win.
Really, though, the only way this would be advantageous would be if one person on the inside were somehow helping out someone they knew who had bought a ticket, but then, if the drawings were conducted in London (i dunno where euromillions drawing is held), for example, wouldn't there be an inordinate number of winners from London, or at least the UK? How many people directly involved in picking the winning numbers know the guy in portugal who wins, or the girl in austria or whatever?
Also, in america, all or the big lotto drawings are broadcast on live TV, using actualy balls drawn out of a big mixing machine. If the euro lottos are done digitally, it may be easier to forge in some regards, but i would imagine some sort of mass-conspiracy would be required, along the lines of not actually doing a random drawing and then just broadcasting the pre-selected numbers as having won. Sounds like a lot of work, but i suppose anything's possible when there's money on the line.

in response to Diggers question, then the odds of going 2 years without winning a tenner are quite high. The chance of winning £10 in a year is roughly 1/50 , so the probability of not winning a tenner in a year is 49/50. As you're playing two lines then the chance of not winning a tenner over the two lines is (49/50)^2, and the chance therefore of not winning over two years is that squared again ie. (49/50)^4 = 0.922 Interestingly, you could play two lines for 50 years and still have a greater than 1 in 10 chance of never winning a tenner... Just goes to show gamblings a mugs game and that the lottery really is a taxation on the stupid...

very interesting theory, however i fail to see how this would be benificial for the lottery company to do? after someone always has to win, so what does it matter to the lotto who does,,
i very much doubt that there is tampering with the lotto draw, but there are always conspiracy theorys out there from people who like to dis-believe every thing they see!!
are you thinking this as a reason why you never win?? thats prob more down to luck than forgery! but it you are convinced its a con then dont play
