Finger sandwiches, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, cake (go to your local grocery store and have one done in a baby theme....they will need advance notice since it is custom....but these are VERY affordable!), pretzels, chips, Punch, and bottled water?

Pretty casual....but food people will want to eat and don't eat everyday!!

Well is it a luncheon or just a shower?

If it's a luncheon an assortment of salads might be nice such as pasta, fruit, green leaf, and heartier ones such as tuna, ham, and egg with rolls to spread them on. Or some deli trays for making your own sandwich etc. Some salty snacks such as chips, pretzels, and nuts are always appreciated.

If you weren't planning on a meal serve a cake or cupcakes, some cookies, mints, a few salty snacks such as pretzels, chips, nuts.

Beverages should include sweet tea, regular tea, coffee, and perhaps some lemonade or other punch.

I did a baby shower and served tuna salad sanwiches, cut in quarter squares, Rotel dip, spinach dip with the Knorr soup mix and the recipe is on the box, ritz crackers, etc. Just simple party foods. Choose a easy punch, like ginger ale and Hawaiian Punch.

Chicken Tender tray from Walmart or Sam's Deli
Fresh Fruit assortment, cut up eithe ron a platter or in a bowl; maybe some kind of yummy poppyseed dip
Chicken & tuna salad to stuff in pistolettes or Croissants
Brownies and Lemon Bars, cut into small 2-bite pieces.

i suggest keeping in mind that either hse just had a baby or will be having a baby and her nutristion is just as important if not more post pregnacy especially if breast feeding . i would suggest sticking with appetizers and fingers foods and don't buy any tray at a department store it is way cheaper and creative to do yourself plus you can have extras in the fridge incase needed to refill. i also suggest serving water for drinks and just have those water flavor packets on hand

any kind of chicken or tuna salad with mini croissants are good. Also, the Mexican dip where you spread refried beans at the bottom of a 9x13 pan, then sourcream that has had taco seasoning added, then cheese, black olives, tomato and lettuce, served with nacho chips. Shrimp and cocktail sauce, little sausages in a crockpot with bbq.

Make some little basinettes out of puff pastry and fill them with wonderful little bits of nosh, like a stuffed mushroom or a meatball or a little pasta salad or fruit salad. These might take a little time to prepare but I bet you see them at other parties after yours. You could just make the bassinettes and have a little buffet of fillers and your guests could create their own.

Don't fill the bassinettes (or baskets or bowls or whatever container you make out of puff pastry) until the last minute or your pastry might get too soggy.

Have fruit deserts. here are some recipes. Have chips, pop, juice and make a theme.

Apple or Pear Crisp

4 medium-size Golden Delicious apples, or Anjou pears or Barlett pears or a combination (about 2 1/4 pounds), peeled, cored, and sliced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
Lightly sweetened whipping cream for accompaniment (optional)
Preheat oven to 350*F (175*C).
Place prepared apples or pears in a greased 8-inch square baking pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water; mix lightly.
In a medium-sized bowl, mix sugar and flour. Using a pastry blender to cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; evenly sprinkle crumbs over fruit mixture.
Bake for 1 hour or until fruit is tender when pierced and crust is lightly browned.
Serve with a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream, if desired.
Makes 4 servings.


Caramel-Applesauce Cobbler with Bourbon-Pecan Ice Cream

1/2 cup butter or margarine
12 large Granny Smith or Pippen apples, peeled and sliced
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 (15-ounce) package refrigerated piecrusts

Bourbon-Pecan Ice Cream (recipe see below)
Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add apple, sugar, and lemon juice; cook, stirring often, 20 to 25 minutes or until apple is caramel colored. Spoon into a shallow, greased 2-quart baking dish.
Roll each piecrust to press out fold lines; cut into 1/2-inch strips. Arrange strips in a lattice design over filling; fold edges under. Place remaining strips on a baking sheet.
Bake remaining strips at 425*F (220*C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Set aside to serve with cobbler.
Bake cobbler at 425*F (220*C) for 20 to 25 minutes or until crust is golden. Serve warm with pastry strips and Bourbon-Pecan Ice Cream.
Makes 8 servings.

2 cups fresh whole strawberries with stems attached
2 ounces brandy
2 ounces white chocolate
Wax paper
Using a small basting syringe, gently inject strawberries with brandy until each berry will hold no more liquid.
In the top of a double boiler melt white chocolate.
Holding the strawberries by the stems, dip one at a time into the chocolate. Place stem side down onto wax paper; chill for 1 hour.
Makes 8 servings.
