Like the above posters said, it could be an STD. But, white, cottage-cheese-like discharge and itching could be a yeast infection. Best thing you can do is not try to guess about which it is, go see a doctor. He or she can treat both.

Don't panic! It is possible but it could be nothing, or something that's v treatable like thrush. I know it's really scary if you've not done it before, but you really should get checked out at the dr just in case. I get thrush a lot cos of diabetes n the 1st time I had to go to the doc about it I was terrified - put it off for 6 weeks til it was really really bad!!! Stupid thing is I was so stressed out about it and she didn't even look at me - gave me a tablet to try and to come back for a look if it doesn't work!!! Really, drs see this kinda stuff all the time, and you really do need to get it checked out even if you are thinking it's probably nothing - I have a friend who had clymidia for 4 years cos she didn't wanna get checked out at the doc - not only had she risked the health of several men she'd slept with in that time, but her fertility is now at risk too! If you're worried, firstly you have the right to see a female dr so ask to see a woman when you make the appointment (btw could be at your GP or a GUM clinic); when you go in take a deep breath and take your time - the dr will expect you to be nervous and will hopefully be very respectfull - if you want to find out what it could be without them looking at it it is probably not the best solution but they can't make you do anything and will give you advise and maybe even medication without looking at it. Either way honestly you will feel so much better that you got it checked out and you will wonder what you were so scared about. Good luck xxx

Sounds like thrush which is a fungal infection, not an std. It is caused when the pH balance in the vagina is upset, commonly by perfumed products and soap.

You can go to the chemist and get an anti fungal cream and/or tablet such as Canestan or Diflucan which will help get rid within a week. If symptoms persist see a doc for std screen.

Use a condom to prevent std's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't worry yourself had the same symptoms and i was so scared thinking i had an std. it's called thrush both women and man can have it and its not an std and it can be cured easily it itches a lot in summer. try canestern cream very good will stop the itching straight away you can get it from the pharmacy without a prescription. washing every now and then also calms the itching. if it won't work then try and see your GP. but am pretty sure it's thrush those are all the symptoms.

There are 3 kinds of STD causing vaginitis. A sample of a cervical or vaginal discharge may be taken for laboratory analysis. Your infection may be Bacterial vaginosis or Yeast infection.
Trichomoniasis (STD) Incubation Period: If symptoms appear, it usually takes from 3 to 28 days for them to develop. A treatable bacterial infection of male urethra & female pelvis.
A watery, greyish, yellowish, or greenish bubbly discharge (may become thicker)
An unpleasant odor.
Pain and itching when urinating.
Most apparent after your period.

Yeast Infection- A treatable fungal infection of the vagina. White cottage cheese-like thick discharge, but no strong odor.
Swelling and pain around vulva.
Intense itching and burning.
Painful sexual intercourse.

Bacterial Vaginosis- Incubation period: Anywhere from 12 hours to five days. Vaginal infection. Fluids may be foamy or frothy (heavier than usual)
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge.
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap.
Itching and burning.
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina and vulva
Please see the web pages for more details on Vaginal yeast infection and Trichomoniasis.
