I am in the midst of a severe cold. If I lay down I go into coughing fits and start wheezing, when standing it gradually stops. I haven't slept at all in 2 days! What can I do?

Its cause the snot in your lungs is smothering your ability to breathe well. Try sleeping in a recliner or with some pillows under you to get in a more reclined like position.

Prop yourself up on about 4 or more pillows so you are up at an angle, or sleep in a recliner.

(How old are your pillows? More than 5 years old? Go out and buy new ones and throw the old ones away. The dust mites might be causing sensitivity. After 10 years, 50% of your pillow's weight is dustmites and their feces.)

Off to the Dr. for you TODAY!

pneumonia behaves this way. It is very serious and will require Dr. treatment the earlier the better. Gradually it will get worse over a few days and then the Dr. will have even harder time to help you.
pneumonia is getting harder to treat than once was and the severity is getting stronger.

It is definately doctor time and I wouldn't wait another day. You obviously have a lot of crud in your lungs and they need to be checked out. If it is pneumonia you need to be treated ASAP. I have ahd many patients that waited way to long, usually stubborn men, and they end up in the hospital and occasionally have had to go on a ventilator for a bit. You don't want that! It is also flu season, did you have your shot? Pleae go get checked out ASAP!

sorry you feel so bad. But try sleeping with your pillows slightly elevated, sometimes lying flat can make things worst especially with post nasal drip being an issue. keep yourself hydrated.hope you feel better and get some good sleep.
