smells a little off but I don't recall what tofu smells like.
I am snowed in for two days now and it will be a while before I can get more food.

If I eat it will it make me ill?

I recently used a box of the Silken Tofu in the shelf stable box that was over 3 years beyond its date, which was easily 4 years since I had bought it. The proteins seemed just a pinch strong, but it was completely wholesome and fine.

The refrigerated kind will not keep nearly that well, but as long as the seal was intact, and it had never been opened, and the source was reputable ... some of the things I buy at the Chinese market seem kind of sketchy even on the day I buy them ... the pasteurization process will not have been compromised.

I would eat it! Tofu always does seem a little strange, especially if you don't have it more than every now and then. Just cook it thoroughly and use it right away!

However, if the texture seems way off I'd be real suspicious and toss it.

THROW IT OUT!!! Fresh tofu doesn't last very long. Aseptically packaged tofu (Mori-Nu brand) can be unrefrigerated in the sealed package for up to a year, but not longer. Other kinds of tofu will be bad after 3-6 days. If it's cooked it will last as long as regular cooked food.

If you like playing the game of "life" take your chances- eat it. Whats the worst that could really happen? death. Please we all die eventually. Atleast you would be giving your friends and family something interesting to talk about at your services. "Kicked the bucket, cause of some tofu" - "really?? Thats a great way to go"- "Thats what I SAID!!"

Yes. Toss it.

I see you've also asked this question about eggs. You must have something on hand that doesn't spoil or has been frozen.

For future reference, tofu can be frozen.

Which is better.....being hungry, or getting food poisoning? You can do without food for some time as long as you've got water, and with snow around that's not a problem.

If it smells like krill, it will make you ill. Toss it before it makes you toss.
