I need some comforting please. I get very anxious about my health when I don't heal up quickly, even over something like mild chest congestion. I've had some mild congestion in my throat that doesn't want to clear up, and I've also got quite a bit of mucus that keeps draining from my sinus cavity. It's probably related I'm sure.

This has been ongoing for well over a month, when is it time to consult my physician? I hate to bother him over something that could just be normal, it makes me feel like a hypochondriac. Anyone else out there ever have a lingering chest cold that just took extra extra long to fully recover from? I just want someone to tell me they've experienced the same thing, it'll make me feel so much better.

I would recomed MUCENEX. It is the same thing a doctor will give you. If you get it, get the kind with decongestent in it. Iam a nurse and this works for me every time.

I have had it linger 2-3 weeks, but over a month I would be concerned. I can recommend an at-home treatment:

A steam bath - best if you can put a little eucalyptus or tea tree oil on a rag in a tub with the shower on as hot as it will go. Sit on the edge of the tub - you want your face as close to the running water as you can get and breath in the steam deeply. Sit for 15-20 mins and you will be impressed by how much looser your cough is. I do it with my kids even - morning and night for a stubborn cough or congestion, I've never had to do it more than 3 times.

Peace!

I'm a nurse. You should get the very best care you can get, because you are so worth it. Unfortunately you have to be seen now for an antibiotic, it is the only thing that will rid you of this. See your doctor. In the meantime use ibuprofen or Tylenol for your discomfort. Take care of yourself you should always want to get the very best care, you deserve it.

I've been having the exact same problem. i finally saw my doctor today and I'm glad i went. it turns out that i have bronchitis. he gave me an antibiotic and a cough syrup with codeine for night time. bronchitis can turn into pneumonia easily if left untreated and i had once 15 years ago and never want to be that sick again. please call the doctor and i hope you feel better soon.
