I'm just wondering if an overweight person went vegetarian
and ate NO junk food and ate the right portions, would it be pretty much impossible for them to not lose weight(unless they had a health problem)?

Not just because they were vegetarian. I'm about 20 lbs overweight now. Last January I became a vegetarian (for the 4th time or so) and gained 10 lbs last year. French fries and donuts and beer are all vegetarian. Gaining or losing weight is all about burning more or less calories than you eat. One can lose weight eating the right choices of meat just as easy as one could gain weight eating veggies. By the way, I'm still all veggie but I'm exercising often and counting my veggie calories.

So long as they are eating fewer calories than they are burning then yes. It is easier to do that on a vegetarian diet. Excercise also helps, of course. But it's not a for sure thing. Especially if the person is still eating cheese and other high fat/calorie vegetarian foods.

Losing weight is easier on a healthy vegetarian diet. But excercise and moderation are still needed.

If an omnivore ate no junk food and the right portions, he'd probably lose weight as well.

But yeah, it can be easier for vegetarians - meat is a fairly calorically-dense food, so it's easy to overeat. It's harder to overeat if your diet contains mostly fruits and vegetables.

Yes overwight people who become strict vegetarians, no junk food, and ate proper portions would/will lose weight. Anybody who does that will lose weight.

Not if they slather their salads in blue cheese dressing and deep fry their tofu! In general, switching to a vegetarian diet will only cause weight loss if the person makes healthy choices and burns more calories than they consume. Sometimes people feel tired when they become vegetarians because they're getting less iron, so they're less inclined to continue exercising. In this case they wouldn't lose weight.

weight problems have nothing to do with eating meat and everything to do with caloric intake and exercise. if the person is overweight because they have been eating way too much, than the portion control will definately help. but if they eat right and still sit on the couch all day long, it's not going to benefit them at all.

Yes IF they ate balanced low junk meals & snacks. A little exercise would help too. Something as simple as walking.

It depends on your diet like any other weight loss plan. I am a vegetarian, and I know others who are overwieght becasue they live on pasta and junk food. You need a balanced diet no matter what lifestyle you choose.

Under the circumstances that you list, yes. Then again, under the rest of the circumstances that you list, so would an omnivore.
