Had that problem. I went to moms and borrowed nice dishes and candle holders and wine glasses. Then I went to the fabric store and got a yard of fabric for like 2 bucks and made it a tablecloth. I found that Michaels, Old Time Pottery, Dollar tree, and Walmart all have little cheap stuff to make it nice.

Eat on the floor, out on the porch. If the meal is at all portable take it to a park. Eat in bed (if not too messy). Go to a drive in and arrange food on the hood, get some lovin' in the back seat for desert. Some zoos allow you to take in your own food (these are getting fewer though - call ahead)

Good music (maybe some dancing in the living room?)

Let your man help you cook. It will create some real special memories for the future. (Even if he's completely hopeless you can tell him to stir or mash).

Don't worry too much about Hollywood romance, it's the quirky little things (like a floor picnic, living room dancing, and watching the zebras) that will make your relationship unique and will be remembered.

If you don't have a tablecloth, you may be able to fake one with a bedsheet. Depends on what you've got. Bonus: bedsheets are machine washable.

Put some music on in the background. It doesn't necessarily need to be classical, but I find that instrumental music of some kind lends itself better to conversation, 'cause then you aren't "singing along" in your head and distracted from each other.

I don't advise flowers at the table, and don't use candles that have a fragrance to them. It will interfere with the flavor of the food. If you live near a store with a "kosher foods" section, I actually recommend looking there for shabbat candles; they're votive-sized, unscented, white (goes with everything!), and often come in their own little glass cups (just soak off the labels). The votive-sized candles also means you won't block your view of each other.

you can get an inexpensive table cloth at walmart. try to stick with a plain colour. i do suggest going to ikea as they have a great houseware department that is chic and cheap. real linens will make it very elegant and you can go to target and get some great stuff too. i would suggest lighting the table with different size low candles, votives are cheap and you can get 100 of them for less than $5 at ikea. votive holders are really cheap and you can get then at the dollar store. stick with one solid colour or a family of colour loke all clear or all red or shages of green etc. no scents during dinner as it changes the flavour of the food but you can always light the living room or bedroom with it afterwards. you can do little flowers everywhere. l love to put cheap flowers like carnations, daisies, etc like on in a shot glass and so a row of them or a few of those and a water glass full of flowers. use what you have at home or float one in a clear bowl. i love getting cheap orchid, cutting each one out and floating them in a large clear fish bowl with floating candles. you can also get metallic confetti from the dollar store and sprinkle it all over the table. if you cannot get a table cloth, try nice placemats....just not plastic ones.

just keep in mind that what he will remember is the effort, the food, the atmosphere, the conversation and you. if you don't want to set all this up...trying having a carpet picnic with daisies and lots of candles all over or eating on the couch next to each other and feeding eachother with candles and a linen napkins etc.

the best thing a memorable dessert. trying serving it on eachother. have fun

Using a table cover even if it is paper adds that little extra you are looking for. Group some flowers or even small pine branches around the candles and you are good to go!

You should wear a mini skirt with no panties on and the skimpiest bra you can find at Victoria's Secret.

Also you can wear a full size apron with nothing on underneath. Then when the time is right, you bend down in front of him revealing you wet warm delights - but don't burn the dinner though! LOL

very simple------from a man's point of view: the food and candles are the only thing you have to spend $$$ on........if it were me, I would be thrilled with my woman wearing something sexy, along the lines of if the two of you were going out to a very expensive dinner, but you're doing it at home
