Maybe do a potluck and ask your friends to prepare their favorite foods from home. Most people have a lot of special memories attached to food, so I'm sure they'd love the opportunity to share their traditions with you. You could be responsible for a dessert, or the drinks, and of course the location and clean up.

Prepare goulash! (Shepard's stew) Lots of meat, bell peppers, onions, paprika, garlic, served over noodles or dumplings.
A real Hungarian dish is chicken paprikash. According to my Grandpa, you have to start with stolen chicken to make it authentic.
Cucumber and beet salad, warm garlic and herb bread, goat cheeses, and then, blintzes for dessert. Go to Allrecipes.com or Google for these yummy treats.
