Attention all cooks who can supply me with a list of spices to make my own curry powder? I don't like the already prepared....please help me thanks in advance.....Jazzy Geri

use the ratio that you want, but I make my curry powder from cumin, cardomon,coriander, turmeric, musturd, and cayane. In the case of everything but the cayane buy the whole seeds and toast them, then put them in a coffe grinder and take them for a whirle. Thats just a basic curry powder, you can add what ever you want to it. It is so much better than the crap that comes in the bottle.

Curry is often also sold in blocks (kind of like baking chocolate), if the recipes above don't do it for you.

If you like mixing your own spice mixes, definitely invest is a separate coffee grinder just for that. I use it for hot pepper and chili powder mixes, as well as making poultry rubs, etc.

3 tablespoons paprika
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons ground fennel
3 teaspoons ground mustard
2 teaspoons ground red pepper
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves


1. grind the spices in a spice grinder.
2. combine and store in a cool dry place for up to 2 months.
