90% of women have this. It is a virus that can cause genital warts or cervical cancer. Just make sure you get regular pap smears. Good luck hun. Most strains, by the way, are fought off by the body within 2 years. So have them test you again in 2 years. The more severe strains that cause cervical cancer are for life. Get the HPV vaccine. It is available & it may help the body fight off the virus.

Pretty much, HPV is a virus. You will always have it. The thing with HPV is that there are many, many strains of it. Some more higher more concerning viruses that can cause cervical cancer. When women have papsmears they should always have an HPV screening. This is done with a routine papsmear. If it comes back positive, depending on the strain it can go into remission or escalate if untreated. That is why yearly pap smears are so important to keep up on preventable things like this. There is a new injection for HPV that actually gets rid of certain HPV strains. If one does have it, tests on the certain strain need to be done to see if the injection will help. Otherwise, if it is causing abnormal pap smears, things such as colposcopies, cryosurgery and pap smears every 3 months need to be done. If HPV is aggressive and ones body does not put it into remission, after in office procedures dont work things such as a Leep Procedure or a Cone Biopsy will be done. If all else fails which is rare but last and I mean LAST resort is hysterectomy. If you keep up on your pap smears, HPV is easily treated and managed.
Oh and HPV is passed not only through intercourse it is passed on with contact. It is passed very easily. So condoms are the best and safest bet for preventing and protecting against any STD. If a male has it, it is very difficult to detect HPV unless it is severe and he has a bad outbreak.

It is the "Human Papillomavirus. It is the most common sexually transmitted virus int the United States. Most HPV infections don't cause symptoms and go away on their own. But HPV is important because it can cause Cervical Cancer in women. Every year in the U.S. about 10,000 women get cervical cancer, and 3,700 die from it. It is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths among women around the world. HPV is also associated with several less common types of cancer in both men and women. It can also cause genital warts and warts in the upper respiratory tract. There is no treatment for the HPV infection, but the conditions can be treated. They have just released a vaccine for HPV for women. It protects against 4 major types of HPV. But you still need to get your yearly screening for cervical cancer.

I freaked when I found out I have HPV but, my doctor made me feel so comfortable and told me it's common and most likely it will clear out of my system. It's very treatable and I'm okay with it. I'm getting the vaccine in April and just sticking with my paps. Now I get checked every 6 months instead of every year! I eat healthy don't smoke and try to drink the less as possible.
I take a multivatamin and also vitamins to boost up my immunse system. Lysine and Enchincea are good for you're immune support.

I will not act like it will go away because you'll always have it. You just have to keep in on track.

The different types are HPV 1-4 consist of your common warts on your skin. HPV 6&11 cause genital warts and HPV 16&18 cause cervical cancer. It all depends on which type that you get. Yes it is true that once you get it and it goes away you still have it.

Human papilloma virus. By itself, it's not really that much of a problem, the issue comes with certain strains being risk factors for cervical cancer, which is a big deal, so if you have it, you should probably get yearly (or perhaps even more frequent, talk to your ob/gyn) pap smears just to make sure that everything is OK.

"Genital HPV infection is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Human papillomavirus is the name of a group of viruses that includes more than 100 different strains or types. More than 30 of these viruses are sexually transmitted, and they can infect the genital area of men and women including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), or anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, or rectum. Most people who become infected with HPV will not have any symptoms and will clear the infection on their own. "

It means that you have genital warts from the Human Papiloma virus and it is lifelong. The danger of this is of course you can pass it on to your partner, and it increases the chances of getting cervical cancer.
