I have a mild version of hypoglycemia. .The symptoms that it includes for me are definitley something that I have to be careful about at work. I try to plan things to eat at every break and even before I clock in. However, sometimes I don't have enough to eat for whatever reason.
I eat whatever I can but I know I need to have protein and not just carbs. I saw Soy Protein powder that can be made into a shake or something similar. Would this be good to use if I have an emergency of really being able to level out or in general?

What makes you think you need protein for hypoglycemia? In fact, unless you're a bodybuilder, you need surprisingly little protein. What you need is a good diet and exercise routine, my friend. Here are three excellent sites that can get you started.

Yes, any snack that isn't sugary is better than nothing.

Many hypoglycemics follow an eating plan. Eat breakfast before work. Make it a complex carbohydrate w/protein (eggs/biscuit, milk, whole wheat bread...something substantial).

You can do protein shakes. The key is low sugar. Avoid fructose and corn syrup in the mix. Also keep nuts in your bad. They are good for you and keep sugars even.

Don't skip meals. Always have peanut butter and crackers with you. Remember that ice cream is much better as a snack than candy or other sugars.

Keep some beef jerky around.

And if you start to feel crappy. Try dried fruits on occasion.

All of these can rescue a weak feeling. Avoid white bread, canned soda, candy, coffee w/sweetners. No doughnuts.

If you avoid sweets, you will avoid the inevitable crash of when your blood sugar elevates. That is what hypoglycemia is all about.

The reason why they include protein is because it has a tendency to last longer mixed with the right Carb, Like peanut butter and bread, and perhaps Jelly. That will keep you stable for a while and it's last longer to distribute the right amount Glucose required by your condition. Check with your Doctor or Caregiver if unstable sugars continue.

The best thing to use for an emergency is simple carbohydrates, sugar, a candy bar, something that will get sugar into your bloodstream fast, a protein shake probably will not do that (depending on the amount of sugar it has, I would have to look at the ingredient label) though orange juice will.
