Steroids raise blood sugar.

The steroid dosage has not been reduced enough yet to warrant a dosage reduction in the diabetes medication. He is on low dose of the glycomet anyway and since it does not cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) like other diabetic medications that should not be a concern. He could probably stay at that dose until he stops the prednisone without any harm full effects. To be sure you can always test the blood sugar levels with a glucometer to see what the actual glucose levels are.

Steroids can raise the blood sugar. Do not lower the medication for diabetes! I am on prednisone for gout and had to go into the hospital because my blood sugar went so high. Talk to the doctor before changing any medication. He will know best. Keep an accurate record of his blood sugars so the doctor can make the best decision based on facts. The doctor should be your father's best friend at times like this. Always check with him.

the reason why your BP went down is because of your medication, discontinue it and you'll be back where you started. you might want to talk to your doctor if you want to lower your dosage. try this: microwave a whole garlic for 1 minute on high. peel it and enjoy! it tastes like potato, it doesn't have or leave a garlic scent to your mouth or your body, not even in your sweat. garlic helps in lowering your cholesterol, BP, and is also a great antibiotic without the side effects. just try it, even my 3 year old likes to eat it when they have a cold, cough or flu. good luck!

No, you can't correlate dose change of steroids and antidiabetic medications without checking glucose levels.
You need to monitor his blood sugars regularly and adjust medications based on the glucose levels.

THOUGHSTEROIDS PRECIPITATE INCREASED LEVEL OF SUGAR THE TREATMENT SHOULD BE MONITORED WITH SUGAR LEVEL AND AS THE SUGAR LEVEL COMES DOWN THE STEROID CAN BE TAPERED.IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REDUCE ANTIDIABETIC DRUG WITH THE REDUCTION OF STERIOD.IT ALL DEPENDS ON SUGAR LEVEL TILL IT REACHES NORMAL AND IF THE DURATIONIS SHORT THE STEROID CANBE STOPPED SUDDENLY

In theory, yes, but in reality, the best way to know is to keep watching fingerstick glucose measurements and changing the drugs in accordance, sometimes people don't react the way the books say they should.
