CHF is not a death sentence. It is a very manageable condition. You need to follow your physicians orders to the letter. My mom lived with CHF for many, many years.

God bless you!

Not all cases have to be fatal. You can be treated just as if you have high blood pressure.
Various drugs are used to treat congestive heart failure. They perform different functions. ACE inhibitors and vasodilators expand blood vessels and decrease resistance. This allows blood to flow more easily and makes the heart's work easier or more efficient. Beta blockers can improve how well the heart's left lower chamber (left ventricle) pumps. Digitalis increases the pumping action of the heart, while diuretics help the body eliminate excess salt and water.

When a specific cause of congestive heart failure is discovered, it should be treated or, if possible, corrected. For example, some cases congestive heart failure can be treated by treating high blood pressure. If the heart failure is caused by an abnormal heart valve, the valve can be surgically replaced.

If the heart becomes so damaged that it can't be repaired, a more drastic approach should be considered. A heart transplant could be an option.

Most people with mild and moderate congestive heart failure can be treated. Proper medical supervision can prevent them from becoming invalids

Gosh, hon, didn't they give you any treatment options?? There are so many medications out there to help treat CHF, to help the heart beat more strongly and effectively. There are dietary considerations, as in severly cutting the salt out of your diet. There are sometimes surgical interventions, such as a pacemaker or other heart support systems.

We really don't have enough information concerning your condition to tell you if you should worry.
If you are in the end stages of CHF, you can be referred to a Hospice. They help you with the final weeks of your life, and are able to medicate you so you do not feel pain when you die. Your doctor can refer you when the time comes, which is usually if you have only 6 months or so to live.
I hope you're just exploring your options and haven't received bad, sad news.

Hello =)

Well,....

People don't always die from congestive heart failure....in fact, the name sounds much more ominous than it really is.....what it really means is that your heart "fails" at pumping blood due to excessive fluids in your lungs, and tissues......

I have been "in" congestive heart failure several times, and have recovered. So has my mother. My wife existed in a constant state of CHF for many years.

But, CHF doesn't usually come on without other causes....so the question is, what else is wrong with you?? Can THAT be treated effectively or not? Is it the result of pulmonary disease, like pneumonia?? Or, is it something heart-related, like Cardiomyopathy?? Or is it just fluid overload??

Namaste,

--Tom

Everyone will die some day, and it may be the case that your CHF will shorten your life, it's impossible for me to tell you without knowing more about it, but it's not generally a very sneaky disease, you know when it's bad, and it's treatable (though most of the time not curable). There are many treatments that have very good evidence for extending the lives of CHF sufferers, from drugs to implantible defibrillators, so see your cardiologist, get an echo to assess your left ventricular function, and talk about the best treatments for you, to make your life as long and your symptoms as minimal as possible.

I can not say for sure if it will hurt because I have not gone through it myself but I have taken care of people that were about to die and there are stages that take place before a person dies. Twards the very end a person will start seeing things and people that are not there, maybe loved ones that have already passed on. It is ok to have worries and be afraid, I think that is normal. When a person is no longer afraid that usually means they have come to terms with dying. God be with you.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a syndrome in which the heart is unable to pump strongly enough to maintain normal blood circulation. CHF usually develops slowly. A patient may go for years without symptoms. This slow onset and progression of CHF is caused by the heart's own efforts to deal with its gradual weakening.

Heart failure is a syndrome of ventricular dysfunction. Left ventricular failure causes shortness of breath and fatigue, and right ventricular failure causes peripheral and abdominal fluid accumulation; both ventricles are usually involved to some extent. Diagnosis is clinical, supported by chest x-ray and echocardiography. Treatment includes diuretics, ACE inhibitors, β-blockers, and correction of the underlying disorder.

Brother, I have it also and am massively swollen and diuretics have not removed the fluids. I can die at any moment. I do not know how much pain will come.
But I pray God to show me mercy and either heal me or take me soon and quietly without prolonged agony. I continue to swell daily and my heart muscle cannot keep the fluids in place for me to live safely. I am drowning in my own fluids and I'm nauseous and can barely drink a drop and hold it down. I can't sleep at night. Brother pray for me & I'll pray for you. The doctors have no remedy if diuretics won't work. And I take the ACE-inhibitors and vasodilators daily. My ejection fraction is still 50% - and digitalis is not a remedy which I can justify. Nor can digitalis restore my damaged left ventricle to normal function . A massive MI wiped out most of my pump efficiency into scar tissue.
I am terrified of what I have and the agony of it. I'm only 55.

Remember me in your petitions to God.

.Dear Soar and Danny; I believe a lot of prayers will be with you though out your journey which will deliver you into the Hands of God. Be happy with Gods forgiveness and his son Dying. If you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Know that Jesus Died and suffered so your sins could be forgiven then you are in good hands. When you extend to the top of the hill remember who'll be calling your name others and Christ will summon you into a path set aside for your stay in the house of God. Remember not to judge on earth for you might meet all who have died and are awaiting to be Judged by God him self. This is my Native belief taught and passed on to my by my ancestors. I have Congestive Heart Failure as well but I look for the Good and expect the worst.
May God be With All That Suffer;Amen

I'm sorry to hear the news buddy, really. I can not speak for you, but I can speak for myself. I am not afraid to die. I have lived a full life. I love and enjoy the people in my life and if I were taken, I trust that everything will be okay. I have given my life to Christ and I know that when I die I will have a place in heaven and not in hell. When I die there will be no more pain. When I die I won't have to worry anymore. I will be at peace and in joy with my savior. We were brought here for a purpose and when that purpose is fulfilled or time has run out, then it's time to go home. No one knows there time to die, many of us don't think that death will ever hit us early or that we won't die from diseases, but nobody knows when we will leave. Just recently a wonderful student died on our college campus. He was loving, kind, friendly, and always lived it up in a good way! He knew the Lord. He did not have to worry when he died. Many people were sad, but we could only be happy for him too, because we knew where his soul rested. We knew that he would be happy for ever. I hope that you will live a full and happy life. You are in my prayers. Questions, comments, concerns, email me. If you have not accepted Christ into your life, please, please, please, accept him, because he died for you. If you trust in him, relax, breathe, and live it up!!! In God's Love, A friend.
