There is quite a few insulin's on the market today that are not made from porcine (pig) and bovine (cow). But porcine, and bovine insulin is still available, there is now a human insulin which is a chemical synthesis of the insulin protein and works very well.
I am not sure that a Muslim person would be able to use a porcine insulin, but as I said that there are many other insulin choices available.

Well, I'm not a religious scholar, but I can tell you that most insulin these days is recombinant human insulin, not pig, cow, or horse, so it shouldn't prove to be a problem. If for some reason pig insulin was the only thing available (which would be bizarre) most religions have a loophole for things like that; if you would die or be in danger from following a religious edict, usually you're permitted not to follow it until it becomes less dangerous to do so.

It has been quite some time since insulin has been extracted from animals. Today, drug companies use a synthesized version of insulin.
While the synthetic product does not harm animals, remember that in order to create such a product, there was animal testing performed. I would like to think that while it was a shame that animals were exploited to better the lives of humans, that we have come further than that and something good has come out of it.
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about choosing the right insulin for you, and perhaps you might find a company that shares your respect for animals.
Best of luck.

Today, many hospitals, health care providers, and diabetics use synthetic (man-made) insulins because it greatly reduces any severe allergic reaction. Thus, I would imagine that diabetic Muslims do use insulin. . . In addition, Type 1 diabetes can be treated only with insulin (or a pancreas transplant).
Hope this helps. . .

I hope so but there aren't too many over weight Muslim extremists so most must be Type 1 and if they aren't hitting the insulin then they are bad off.

Lantus insulin is made from pigs. I use Humulin which is made from humans. Not all insulins come from pigs.

Currently in the US, porcine (from a pig) insulin is quite rare.
Most is made using recombinant DNA techniques.
