I'm not sure about hepititis, but with AIDS, there are antiviral medications the baby of an infected mother can take immediately after birth to reduced the risk of getting the disease. Also, most mothers with HIV/AIDS are told not to breast feed. The actual transmittal rate of HIV/AIDS from mother to infant without antiviral drugs is 20-25%, but with the medications it reduces that risk to only 4-5%.

If people with AIDS have children then those children need to be vaccinated with a BCG shot by the time they are 1 year old because by then full-blown AIDS or HIV will be evident. Only children who are born with full-blown AIDS are not given the vaccination. I've also read that 5-10 out of ever 100 births in East & Central Africa are born with HIV-1 and that number is expected to rise quickly.

As for Pamela Anderson's kid, there would have been about a 1 in 8 chance that the kid would have been born with Hepatitis-C, but yes she definitly could have infected her baby.

As per medical science the baby should be infected with HIV virus but it takes long time to convert HIV to fully blown AIDS case like the deceased mother. If the baby is cured with medicines which are very expensive now HIV infection can be controlled and even cured. Take the case of Magic Johnson who was an HIV patient but now his decease is in total control. It all depends how serious is Angelina Jolie about her adopted child.

a baby is born HIV positive but it does not become aids until the virus awakens and attacks the childs immune system which may or may not happen. Some people even have a resistance to aids, they can come in contact with it and thier body can destroy it. Eventually all humans will have this resistance or they won't survive.

I don't know for sure about hepatitis but AIDS is not always spread from mother to child. It is likely that the baby will get it especially if the baby is breastfed. However, if the baby is formula-fed and did not get it while passing through the birth canal, it will be fine.

There is a chance they can get it, but it is not likely. Because during meiosis (DNA replication) bases that make up genes, have to be passed from both parents, and the right sequence has to occur in order for the AIDS gene to form. But it is possible!
Unfortunatly!

babies will usually get the disease when passing through the birth canal because of contact with the mother's blood. usually women who find out they're sick get c-sections. I believe it's usually the passing of the problem doesn't happen unless they go through the canal or get the mother's blood, and even then they may not get it. hit and miss really.
