some thought natural gas leak ,others disagreed . 2 fell sick even in N.J. I never heard outcome of investigation.

The stink was caused by the swamps in New Jersey. For some curious reason all the swamps in Jersey seemed to work in unison on that particular day and the wind direction took the stink straight to Manhattan
