i've been a vegetarian for a year and a half now and for the last week i have been dreaming about ...meat. me wanting to eat meat, me eating bacon, sausage, steak, i even think i dreamt about the smell. could this be my body's way of telling me it needs something? or what?

oh during the day i'm fine, i don't need meat or anything. what do you think?

those are some pretty wild dreams you got there...I would not give into your temptations, but if you are feeling a bit sluggish, it may just mean you need more Vitamin B12 which vegetarians usually lack because of lack of protein. try eating more nuts, soy and maybe some supplements. Hope your dreams go away

You're body is trying to tell you that you like the taste of meat, not that you must eat meat to live. It wants what you are tearing apart from suddenly.

For instance, if I told you that you could not read any more answers on your question for 10 minutes, you would say "that's weird, but whatever". But if for the full 10 minutes I taunted you with "you can't see them" over and over, soon you would be thinking "I wonder what the answers are."

You are wondering what meat tastes like. Even though you fully know what it tastes like, as you fully know that your answers will not be radically different from the ones you have already seen, you want meat. You can satisfy that need by eating a tofu dog every day and going on goveg.com daily to remind yourself why you are a vegetarian.

It might also be because you aren't having enough vitamins and minerals. Make sure you have lots of Vitamin B12. Eat yeast extract on your toast. (It smells bad, but it's completely vegetarian and has TONS of B12. Also, have lots of protein. As I mentioned above, have lots of tofu products. Also, eat nut products and beans.

Hope your freakish dreams go away! And DON'T GIVE IN TO MEAT!!!

Only you know the reasons you became vegetarian. As for the people saying its your body needing meat to satisfy deficiency, they are obviously meat eaters. Have you had a check up with your doctor for your iron,calcium.B12 since becoming vegetarian, because its easy when you start not to get the right combination of foods to satisfy your body long term. Do you see or smell meat cooking before you go to bed to manifest the dreams of food you gave up? Must say I never have dreamed of these ever, lots of yummy desert dreams and me looking like a balloon though!!!!

I don't think it's your body "talking" but your mind.
Dreams do mean things but not usually very direct. You need to ponder what the Meat represents in your dreams. Something you feel you are giving up(not meat)? or The fact you have the power to control your own life? Many ways to look at dreams.
I have a vivid dreams life, I have someone who knows me well who can some times give me a helpful view on my dreams. Some times just ltting the dream roll around in my mind for a few days does it too.

No, all you body is saying is "give me that old tasty stuff!". If we needed meat, everyone would crave meat. I don't, and I've always been vegetarian. I crave some of the vegetarian meals my mom made at home when I was a kid. And no, I am not referring to spinach and carrots;) We all crave something that's tasty and/or gives us comfort.

Perhaps your body is trying to tell you that you are deficient in a particular vitamin such as B12 or iron. I would recommend taking a good multi-vitamin as well as a B and iron one.

Good Luck! I was vegetarian for 6 years and I had to start eating meat again due to a serious vitamin deficiency so keep an eye out for the signs and I hope you can keep it up.

No, there is nothing about meat that would want me to eat it.
And there is nothing missing from a veggie diet that would make you crave meat.

A vegetarian diet does not give you a serious "vitamin deficiency" as mentioned in one answer above. A BAD vegetarian diet may give you a deficiency, but its nothing to do with excluding meat from your diet.

Its just probably a habit your brain has got into.

ignore it,

Dreams can't tell your body what to do, its just your imagination. If they can. is it ok for me to visit the woman who lives 2 doors down.?...I'm sure she'd understand it was just my dream telling me too....maybe not

Probably you weren't so ready to make this decision! maybe you don't really believe in being a vegetarian, i don't eat me, but not because I'm a vegetarian, but most of the time i don't like the taste of it!

So go back to eating meat, stop the craving!

actually yes, i believe your body is trying to tell you that you need meat. our bodies were all supposed to have meat, for carbs, and protein. normally if you start craving meat, or dreaming about it, then that means you are probably lacking meat. so either try some meat, or try having some carnation instant breakfast in the mornings or before you go to bed, that has a lot of protein in it.
