Fish is indeed a meat, and no self-respecting true vegetarian would eat fish.
Eggs are always a bone of contention in the whole vegetarian argument. Because the egg hasn't been fertilised, and does not contain an actual animal, the argument is usually that it doesn't constitute non-vegetarian. However, the appalling conditions that battery chickens endure is always a worry for people who are vegetarian on principle, as opposed to those who simply go veggie for their health.
I don't think that argument will ever be settled, but the fact remains that the general term vegetarian does include dairy and eggs. Once those are given up, you get towards veganism, though that is so much more than a dietary term.

Fish is an animal, and therefore is unsuitable for a vegetarian to eat. True vegetarians do not eat animals of any kind, including fish. Anyone who claims to be vegetarian, but eats fish aren't vegetarian.

As for eggs, some are infertile...and some are not. There was a news story a couple of years ago about a person who cracked an egg open and found an undeveloped fetus inside of it.

Fish is an animal.

Anyone who eats fish is not a vegetarian.

just check out the globally accepted definitions of a veggie to see this. see www.vegsoc.org.uk or www.ivu.org. Both the world leaders in vegetarian issues.

A fish eater is just that - a meateater who restricts thier meat intake to fish - its nothing to do with vegetarianism.

An egg is different. an unfertilised egg will never be a life form. It will just rot if left alone.

An egg is just the mentral waste of a hen. Gross yes, but a life - no.

For it to be a life a hen would have to be impregnated by a cockeral 2 days before the egg is laid.

Personally i will onyl eat eggs fro own own free range hens. I know they are natural pure breed hens, fed natural corn and can roam over many acres of land, all i ask is that they come home at night.

As has been a topic of much debate here, I fish is indeed an animal and not a plant. Vegetarians (of any kind) do not eat animals, and therefore do not eat fish. Some people who eat fish pretend they are vegetarians, or they call themselves pesco-vegetarians or some such. They can be pescotarians all they want, but having vegetables as a side-dish, or sitting next to your dead animal, does not make you a vegetarian anything.

Vegetarians who eat eggs are ovo-vegetarians (see, they can have a hyphenated term because eggs are not animals.) Because the egg is not fertilized, they are doing nothing more than eating the chicken's period. Sure it's is gross, but to most it is not as gross as eating decaying flesh. :)

I personally do not eat eggs because chickens are tortured their entire "lives" to get eggs. But that is just my prerogative.

But if you have a moral question about when Life begins, even the most devout Catholics do not believe that an egg, unfertilized by semen, is life.

Fish is a meat. Eggs however do not necessarily equal life. Even store bought eggs are infertile. No matter if someone eats them or not, they will never make a new life form. Mind you, I won't BUY store eggs (except an occasional pack of free-range ones if my hens are being lazy) because of the horrific treatment chickens recieve on factory farms. I have two hens that free range in my backyard (I live in the city). I KNOW that their eggs are infertile and I know that they are well cared for and happy.

If the chickens aren't mistreated, and the eggs can never become a chicken... I dont' see a problem.

Vegetarians do not eat fish. Fish is an animal. People who say that are vegetarian but eat fish are not vegetarians at all.

Ovo-vegetarians eat eggs. Eggs are unfertilized and are not an animal.

Yes, fish is meat. I don't eat fish. However, I don't care what eggs are a symbol of. I eat them. They are not an animal, so I don't care.

Vegetarians don't eat fish.

What would be the relevance of the symbolism? Not all vegetarians are that way for 'ethical' reasons. Some simply find meat gross.

Yes, fish is meat.
I don't know about unfertilized eggs being a symbol of life, but I do know that they are nasty. Eggs are chicken periods.
