the key is to eat a little meat at a time... not a lot
your body needs an opportunity to know to produce the enzymes to break the meat down. too much at one time & the body does not expect it & rushes to make the enzymes & you can get sick due to the fact that it cannot produce the amount of enzymes to breakdown the large quantiy of meat that it has not seen in along time. therefore there is no enzymes to breakdown meat in reserve.
if you start gradually back your body will once again start making the enzymes in reserve expecting some more meat to be coming along soon. this is why it is best to start back on meat alittle at a time.
thanks, SS

Why even stop being vegetarian?
Makes me glad that I am a Raw Foodist (and no, I don't eat meat of any kind).
I was vegetarian for a couple of months and ate some chicken...and promptly got sick. This all happened a couple of months ago. After reading "Diet For a New America" by John Robbins, I will never eat meat again.

As an experiment I had a cheeseburger after being off red meat for 6 yrs. I didn't get sick - but didn't eat any more either. I still like chicken and seafood, so I'm not a true vegetarian. Strangely enough, I bought Boca Burgers twice, but due to the fact it reminds me so much of hamburgers, I haven't been able to eat them.

I was a vegetarian for a year. [A true vegetarian. I didn't eat any sort of meat or seafood or poultry.] One night, I was sick of eating salad when I went out to dinner and ordered a steak. I got soooo sick. After that one time, I was fine, but your body is unable to process all of the meat and most people, I've heard, get sick at least once. In my case, I thought it was worth it. But, that's what I'm pretty sure happens....hope it helps!

No, it's the other way round jaja, meat digests faster than plant matter, with its tough cell walls and cellulose that we cannot digest.
The reason people get sick is when they abstain from meat their body no longer makes the meat splitting enzymes needed to digest it, as they don't need to, and thus without them your stomach isn't capable of breaking down large amounts of meat, until it produces the enzymes again.
But that is short term; I do not believe there are any detrimental long term effects, and in fact meat is quite good.

When your body in used to cleansing out your system faster on a vegetarian or vegan diet, returning to a meat diet can cause a large upset because it suddenly has a slow digestive product going through its colon. This can cause nausea, bloating, and cramping. Plant based foods break down much faster and softer so constipation can occur when meat is suddenly added to the system. I think you would need to increase your water intake to help the problem.

right now I eat a little bit of each food group including meat. However, I've been contemplating vegetarianism for some time. I'm researching, and looking into how "doable" it will be.

it might get you a little sick depending on how long you were a vegan and how much meat you eat
