With a bamboo steamer, dimsum foods, of course ! :) ie. dumplings/wonton placed over with some of your favorite veges, for instance, I like using napa cabbage. Occasionally, I like steaming some meatball patties OR ready-made buns with that. Most of all, when comes to getting some fresh live fish on the cook, I like them steamed with ginger, scallions, shallots oil, soy sauce & some good cooking wine. Hope you're motivated to get your steamer going now, cheers ! :)

NO!!! Throw it out. You should never clean stuff, you should just throw it out. I always throw away stuff away when its dirty. Like plates, glasses, houses. Whenever my house gets dirty I bulldoze it and build a new one. If it's only around the edges I wouldn't worry about it. Soak the edges in bleach and that will certainly kill the mold. Also, don't let mold freak you out. Unless you are a very sickly person a little mold never hurt nobody. In the future make sure you store the steamer in a well ventilated place and without anything holding moisture down over it. This will prevent the development of mold.

What I learned to do in my bamboo steamer was to steam boneless chicken breast chunks until they're fully cooked, then transfer them to a saute pan and toss with Lachoy (or any asian brand) Sweet and Sour Sauce and a can of diced or chunk pineapple. Voila, Steamed Sweet and Sour Chicken... all the great flavor of restaurant Sweet and Sour Chicken, but no frying or breading. Serve with rice of course.

If you like Mexican food you'll love making tamales in the steamer! They're sooo good~

Also you can put your favorite cut up veggies in the basket to steam with some shrimp (cook until shrimp are very pink) and serve it over brown rice. I cut up zuccini, sweet onions, carrots. broccolini, celery, snow pea pods...add what you like best. Add a splash of soy sauce and it's supper time!

Those are my faves, have fun experimenting.

Wow, bamboo steamer, the only appliance I'd never think about owning.

Actually, I don't have any recipes. Everything I do is just fresh steamed fish or veggies. To serve, I just add a light sprinkle of salt, if necessary. If I get fancy, maybe I'll drizzle a bit of lemon juice on the fish.

My brother uses his to make steamed bread, I don't know how, though.

Any and all vegetables.
Steamed fish, preferably flakier fishes, like salmon, flounder, orange roughy. I don't follow any specific recipes, just do it to taste!
(I like how one poster called it an "appliance" :)
