I would stick with finger food you can get at Costco's or BJ's
Get at least 6 types. Figure 6 per person.
The drinks is your cash cow.
Have a themed drink like a bellini, or a rum runner or a sex on the beach. Its actually easy to do a sangria with plenty of fruit in it.
The fruit will count as dessert and you won't have to get such a huge cake.
Make sure there are enough cups/plates/knives/forks and cutesy napkins.
Also pick a theme color (red/blue/black/white/gold/silver), something festive and a nod towards the person's favorite color.

Ultra elegant...3 appetizers and a large salad, but it sounds like you want a lot of people there.

As far as activities, charades and trivial pursuit that reflect the generation's age.
Have a fun movie playing in the background for white noise like "Pulp Fiction" or "Snatch" that can be visually appealing without having to hear all of the dialogue.

Well where do I begin. I will give you some advice, you must always remember when throwing a party that the guests want to visit with the host of the party so make sure that everything is done ahead of time. The best thing to keep in mind is no matter how great your party is there will always be some people who will not be happy they are the haters. I believe that every party has one my mother called them party poopers. you should serve finger foods maybe get it catered serve tacos almost everyone likes tacos they are inexpensive and can be made from beef, chicken, fish, and pork. Then have a salsa bar there are so many types of salsas out there, green, fresh, cooked, hot to mild. Serve Sangria, Margaritas, sodas for those who don't drink, a few Mexican and American beers. Play Whatever type of music you and your guests will enjoy. Get some decorations from your local party supply store and check in the Mexican specialty stores there are a lot of things you can get they are not expensive maybe get a pinata fill it with little trinkets. I did a pinata for my daughters 17th birthday and filled it with samples of shampoo, lotions, bath gels, little make-ups, mints and gum. You can give out little remembrances of your party so your guests will have something to remember the great party you threw. Don't forget to have a designated "Dave" the person who will drive those who can't home. All you need is a theme and your imagination, then run with it. I'm sure your party will be great, and a good time will be had by all. I hope that I have been some help to you.

Make sure everything stands out. When throwing a party the major part is always theme. You might want to go with a theme like a night on the town or a night to remember. Many drinks, cups, and food. Never think too much. Just go with the flow and never ever think that your party will not be perfect and trust me your party is going to be perfect.

maximum individuals have engagement events exceptionally on the threshold of the time they have been given engaged. november is in simple terms too a approaches away for having an engagement party. you would be able to as properly in simple terms have a christmas party and forget approximately calling it an engagement party. i wish you at the instant are not watching for that folk will convey you presents simply by fact they don't try this for engagement events. those are in simple terms get togethers of pals and kinfolk hosted with the aid of the couple, so as that all and sundry can have fun the engagement and congratulate the couple and so the two factors of the households can start to get to appreciate one yet another. waiting until november or december will make it look which you men at the instant are not that excited approximately being engaged. in case you will do it, you will desire to do it interior 6 weeks of the engagement.

Theme is the key here. If you carry through your theme - your guests will remember your party, AND it will make your planning much more cohesive and easy.

For example - last year for my hubby's birthday (he didn't want a birthday party) - so instead I threw a big gambling party. I used cards, dice, poker chips as the theme. I covered the tables with green felt (like a poker table). Provided stacks of poker chips, cards and other gambling stuff. I rented a roulette wheel. Set up a "bingo party" with scratch off lottery tickets for prizes.

For food - giant sub sandwich, chips and dips and a veggies. On the food table - I again put down green felt, scattered poker chips and dice like confetti - put down the food and on the end I put a big tub with bottled water, beer & wine.

The party favors were small black gift sacks (think penny candy size) filled with chocolate poker chips. The sack top was folded over twice and a card was glued over it to close it. They looked cool - and very sharp sitting on a small table by the door.

Hope that helps you!

Make it interactive with little games and raffles where they all can win little prizes. Have a theme, like after a TV show or game show. Have different little food stations around the house so that people need to move around and, hence, force them to mingle. Music-I would play some good jazz instrumental music. No lyrics. It's relaxing and upbeat. Food-something fun like fondue is a great idea, and you can let them cook it for themselves. Another great idea is sliders(mini burgers, like White Castle) You could use ground turkey, beef or chicken for those who are finicky.

Just some ideas off the top of my head. Good luck.

Most of all, make it fun!!!
