This is a question that was asked in my science class and I wanted to know why. I thought it was because the baby has the same antibodies as the mother that are against the HIV virus. My teacher said that was slightly incorrect and it has to deal more with the receptors of cells. Can you please help me???

I believe its because the baby has its own circulatory system. This is because the baby might have a different blood type then the mom...therefor the mother would attack its own fetus. I dont really know how it works with the baby recieving nutrients from the mom.

I think it may have to do with the child sharing the same blood as its mother. The reason why chances are that the foetus has more of a chance of inheriting the fathers blood type than the mothers. I hope this helped a bit.
