Since the chili has a strong flavor i recommend a dessert that will also leave a strong but pleasing taste in the mouth. Seems to me you want to be kind to him but as well romantic to relax him and making him feel better after a tough week. Maybe crepes filled with strawberries and topped with chocolate syrup and powder sugar would be a good idea.
Do you know what crepes are? They are like pancakes but much more thinner(like a flour tortilla), see the link below for a recipe. Buy some strawberries, dice them and sprinkle some sugar and lemon juice. Taste the strawberries, they should taste between sweet and acid, choose the taste you prefer. Let the strawberry, sugar and lemon juice set for about 30 minutes.
When you have prepared the crepes, grab one a place the strawberry filling inside, roll and cover with "strings" of chocolate syrup (hershey one is perfect!) then sprinkle with powdered sugar using a flower shifter so the sugar can look like snow! Hope this works! Be sure to buy a great wine, dry red wine or sweet rose works.... be sure to add candles and have a great romantic dinner!!

Here's a recipe from one of my cookbooks for a great salad. I serve this myself with my chili (I have at least a half dozen chili recipes). My only other recommendation would be to drop the Shiraz and go with a good cabernet (try Frontera). Salad Marinade This salad should be made at least 4 hours prior to serving in order to give the ingredients time to marinate. Ingredients: 4 ripe tomatoes, medium size, cut into 8 wedges each 2 large cucumbers, halved lengthwise, and cut into ¼ inch thick pieces 1 large red onion, large dice 1 red bell pepper, large dice 1 green bell pepper, large dice salt and pepper to taste 1 cup extra virgin olive oil ½ cup apple cider vinegar ½ cup balsamic vinegar Preparation: Combine the ingredients in a container with a tight fitting lid. Mix thoroughly and chill in the refrigerator. Periodically before serving, carefully stir the ingredients so the salad is well marinated.

I think Thai iced teas with condensed milk are awesome. They aren't really dessert but they are sweet and very refreshing after something spicy or while you're eating something spicy. Also, they are very simple to make. You just need to find simple black tea(preferably an asian variety, if you have a local asian supermarket, just ask) and boil it in a kettle or pot then filter it. Store it in a jug or container. Chill it and when you serve, just add condensed milk. Beware though, they are highly addictive and not for the calorie counter. Have fun!

Just serve Jalapeno Corn Bread with the chili and he won't have any space left for dessert. An iced drink (tea, chai or beer).
Jalapeno Corn Bread
5 tablespoons butter
2 jalapeno chiles, minced
2 ears corn or 1 cup corn kernels
1 small red onion minced
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 cup cornmeal
2 ounces Cheddar cheese, grated (optional)
1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Using 1 tablespoon of the butter, grease an 8" square pan, or line pan with baking parchment. Trim stems from chiles and discard. Slice kernels from ears of corn. In a 2-quart mixing bowl, combine chiles, corn, and onion. In a small bowl, combine milk, eggs, and remaining butter, then add to the chile-onion-corn mixture.
2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Stir in cornmeal. Gradually stir flour mixture and Cheddar cheese (if used) into the chile-corn-milk mixture until just combined and slightly lumpy. Do not stir until smooth or corn bread will be tough. Place mixture into prepared pan. Bake until top is golden brown and a skewer inserted about 2" from the edge come out dry (35 - 40 minutes). Cut into squares to serve.

To go with spicy it is good to have something milky to balance it out. Try Kheer, (rice pudding), or gulab jamun (deep fried milk balls in syrup) Both Indian and oh so good! There's a lot of good spicy food in India so this is tried and true!
