Chloraseptic spray. You will think it is liquid heaven. No more burning.
Also, try the numbing cough drops (I think Chloraseptic also has some of these.)

The best things I have ever tried....and trust me I've tried alot of things in the past, as I get frequent tonsillitis, are these: in no particular order; cloraseptic spray (deadens the area for a while...kinda like using oragel on your teeth) I've also made either broth or soup and put in as much cayene pepper as i can stand and drank it, (the cayenne pepper act's as a anasthetic and really does help, for longer than the spray) or you could use throat losenges, but I find these to be less than effective, the only other thing that I have done that has worked, is to go to the local clinic and be tested for strep throat, (strepticaucous)that way you know that it's either strep, or just a viral infection....if it's strep then you need antibiotics, and within 24-48 hours you will be okay (just make sure to take the whole Rx of antibiotics, cause if ya stop when your feeling okay, it could mutate into something that resists antibiotics and get worse)
Take a flashlight and look into your throat, ( you will need to use a popsicle stick or something else to hold your tongue down most likely...but do not insert it too far or you will gag...okay)you will note that there are tonsils on either side (unless you have had them removed) are one or both sides of your throat inflammed? if so I would be more likely to go to the clinic. If not then I would use a home remedy like the cloraseptic, or cayenne pepper drink. If you don't have any strepticaucus bacteria, then more than likely you may have been swallowing alot of phlegm due to a cold, in which case I would advise you to try to cough up as much stuff as you can (if you have a cough) get some cough syrup with DM-D (like Benylin DM-D, Robitusson DM-D, etc... which has Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide in it (get's right in there an helps you cough the stuff up so your throat's not so sore.
If you don't have a cold at all, and have a sore throat I would advise you to check the sides of your neck to see if your lymph node's are swollen, if they are, then thing's could be a little more serious than a common cold, i.e.: mononeucleosis, (which is fairly common among high school/college age people and typically doesn't have any major complications, but if the outside of your neck is swollen, get it checked NOW, because mono can be contagious)...however do not worry about that till you get tested for strep, that is the first step.
Try honey/lemon/tea, or cayenne pepper first and go from there okay hon.
Good luck to you and hope you get better soon!
Also a pain reliever like Advil (generic and cheaper name Ibuprofen usually will also help because it is an anti-inflammatory but make sure you buy the generic ibuprofen, cause that is the active ingredient in Advil and Motrin and to buy the "name brand" will cost you alot more and the name brands don't work any better!!! so save some cash!

So sorry...I had that over the holidays.
First of all, besides all of the other suggestions, I highly recommend a simple pain reliever...just like you'd take to get rid of a headache. I found that this helped quite a bit with the pain.
Secondly, I also recommend hot tea with fresh lemon and honey. While you're not in class (and if you can afford it), a drop of alcohol in it is nice, too. The lemon strips away the bad stuff, while the honey allows the warmth (and alcoholic numbing effect) to stick to your throat a little longer than just the tea.
Good luck...I hope this helps!

You can warm up some honey and lemon. Mix it together and sip on it 'til you're done. Continue to do this as long as your throat continues to hurt. This really works for me to sooth the pain. Also, you can gargle warm water and salt. If you smoke, quit the smoking until your throat feels better. I would suggest seeing a doc if your throat hurts for more than a few days. Hope this helps!!!

Try warm saline solution. A mixture of warm water and salt. Use this to gargle for your sore throat. Three times a day.

The only fast thing I can suggest is at the drug store. Get that numbing spray called Cepacol.
